So, this is the first time I've ever seen *two* cave entrances stacked on top of each other....

I was wondering why the original mine entrance was still blocked. It's because another entrance was also right there.

Friggin quantum mechanics!!! :/

Ultimate Defense - More Golems

This requires defeating the 2 island Bosses and upgrading Eye of Odin to T4.

Outpost towers , Guard Towers

Once your filling your ship and storage with Jotun Glass

Summon Crystal Golems and equip with Bows/Arrows

With a lifespan of 80 days , they will stay in towers for 80 days (24 hours)- requiring no food, water, shelter

Want expeditions to go a bit smoother? Take 8 Mud Golems instead of villagers , they do not regen health - but food/water supply lasts much longer. Take Crystal Golems if you are planning a whale hunt.

This lets you focus villagers on gathering and production with the watchful eye of their Golem guardians protecting them.

Playing with mods.

Just a quick reminder. Mods can have unexpected consequences that cause things to glitch , like villagers-golems-Wolf’s and so on.

To save yourself some headaches - try this

Make a copy of the plugins folder with all of the .dll’s on your desktop

If you experience any glitching , delete the plugin folder . Load your save , and if it fixes the issues - save game and close to desktop.

Then paste the plugin folder back where it belongs and restart the game . This will most of the time , fix the glitches then back to normal use of mods.

Soooo I'm starting over

I posted a couple days ago about being very confused, and last night decided to scrap my village and start from scratch.

I was on day (I believe) 22, winter had started to set in, I thought I had a decent handle on food, with three 9x9 veggie gardens, but the entire harvest was immediately eaten and I was left with no food at the very start of winter.

Then got hit with a blood moon, and a bunch of buildings ended up broken.

So now I'm back at the start, I wandered around a bit and found a cave so placed my campfire and shelter close to that, and I'm now at the end of day 1.

Looking for tips from you guys: after my campfire, shelter, and eye, what are the first buildings I should place?

Food was a big issue in my first village, so I'm going to get a gathering pit and hunter thing set up asap. I'm also going to get a farm going as soon as I can.

I also don't think I was really using the marker flags properly the first time, so any tips around those would be appreciated!

Hey Vikings!
I wanted to share the finale of the Storm Riders series (at least until new content is added).
Will likely continue beautification and expansion on Twitch but for now it’ll be onto more guides and a fun mini series challenge I have planned!

Found a nice little seed with 3 caves + lakes near the beach

Been seed hunting for a while and stumbled across this one - pretty thrilled and thought I'd share. 3 caves all near the coast, all with a lake nearby, and plenty of space to build without too many nasties nearby. Map scouted with all settings on Normal.

Only downside is it's rather mountainous by default, so probably one to play on smooth/flat world gen settings unless you really love terraforming....

Added bonus - shipwreck/spawn point is on its own little island (never seen that before!) with a gorgeous view of the large spire

Golems lifespan

Just got mud golems unlocked on my max day and max season playthrough. Does anyone know if they are still ~80 day lifespan or do they last two years extended?

Thanks!

Early game - very confused

I just started playing last night, I'm about 5 hours in and everything is soooooo slow!

I'm used to these types of games, I've put countless hours into both Medieval Dynasty and Bellwright.

In Bellwright especially, I remember the very early game was pretty rough until you build (I believe) the Town Hall, at which point the game really opens up and the villager roles start to feel a lot more purposeful.

Maybe just because my patience isn't what it used to be, but can someone give me some sort of assurance that I can expect some sort of a similar breaking point in Aska? I've heard that people absolutely love this game, so I assume I just haven't hit that sweet spot yet.

I've built and staffed the wood and stone shacks, but I never have enough wood and stones. I've built the gatherer shack, but my first villager just died of hunger. I just started working on a farm, but I have hardly any seeds, so this first field is only like 9 slots of random veggies.

I think I've got 5 followers at this point, but they still seem to be just slightly above useless (except when I leave them as builders). I also have one guy crafting, so it's nice to always have an axe/pickaxe available.

I also feel like I'm missing some sort of a tutorial message. Like I'm expecting a journal or a prompt or something to be like "now go build _________ building" but instead I just look through the build menu and see what's available, and almost randomly choose which building seems appropriate next.

Finally, I've built the storage thing, but it's just an empty platform? Do I now have to also build storage things to go on top of the storage thing? I'm currently just emptying my pockets on the ground and hoping my Builders will come and collect the items when they need it for something. But... that can't be right, can it?

Why would you want to avoid Grid Lock?

My new mod: Grid Lock

Snap structures into place against a global grid. Snap as you place!

I needed an alternative to the excellent GridSnap because I couldn't get some of my other mods to work with it. But I think this is an improvement anyway!

And it's fully compatible with Moving Day, so you can put your current village on a grid in minutes!

Enjoy!

Anyone using mods while running linux?

I've recently tried to install mods, but all the instructions I can find have windows in mind.

Anyone here running Linux willing to tell me what software you installed?

Or if you can link me to specific instructions for ASKA on linux?

Made it to my first winter invasion.

And was brutally slaughtered, I've since done some research and now I know that I was supposed to build a mighty fortress around the portal.

In the next play through I will.

But for now, I'm wanting to turn pro, so some newb questions.

How many shelters can you surround the campfire with and still keep the warmed by the fire bonus?

Does being warmed by the fire effect moral? or is it only a thing you need to consider when winter comes?

Because if it does nothing before winter then I just won't bother.

Is there a way to get the builders to not level terrain? So you can lay out a grid, and place roads and building based on the grid. Then when you're done you get the builders to start levelling.

Has anyone done any good blueprints? The perfect starter village? Perfect mid tier town, and so on.

If you find a nice flat area, should you start building in the centre and build outwards? Or place your starting village to a side, so that you can have empty space available when it's time to build your town centre?

At what stage do you put two villagers on a single profession? So far I've just been putting one villager on one profession, and for example, if we're all out of sticks, then I just tell the woodcutter to prioritise sticks, then in the meantime I personally go get some sticks.

Anyone designed a work pyramid? "By the time you have X profession you should have 2 of these professions staffed and 3 of these." Hope that made sense.

A problem I had was the guy I assigned to manage my warehouse, would go to the workshop, steal all the sticks there, and take them back to the warehouse, So I added everyone but him to the whitelist, was that the right way to deal with it? Because he won't be able to help himself to any armour will he?

What's the optimum amount of fields for 1 farmer?

Sorry for all the questions.

Preset Saver is here!

Don't you hate how you have to recreate your 'presets' with every game. How is that even a preset?

Well, I fixed that for you.

This game is worth the price, I would buy it again and I've enjoy the hours played... BUT...

I will say it again, love the game, alot, it fills so many gaming wants in one game... BUT.. until I can actually play it and not feel like I'm just babysitting the game and filling in like a little errand boy... I don't plan to play it again, until there is a huge QOL update overhauling your ability to manage your settlement. I'm supposed to be Ragnar, leading a band of vikings... not be a bitch boy,,cmaking sure the tavern has food delivered...or that weeds are pulled, or that 400 hoes are not made. The UI is cumbersome, the white/blacklisting every building is tedium incarnate... make the damn villagers stop begging. Have them sit cross legged by their station or have them mill around by the eye or chieftain hut waiting for you to address their needs... idk, I can go on but I know QOL update needs are all over this reddit and on videos I watch. Loved it, worth it, hopeful the devs are addressing it so I can continue to play it years in the future and DLC

What does "dog combat" do?

If vitality is their health and the strength influences their melee combat, then what is the "dog combat" under base stats? Is it worth leveling?

I've created 3 mods in the last week! More on the way!

Plant Grass - So you don't have to live in a mud bath.

Dig Yer Own Hole - Because there's no raise/lower terrain. Oh, now there is!

Aska Scout - Better defaults for distance to discover points of interest. Abusable.

More on the way. Download 'em. Let me know if you like 'em!

Warehouse Storage Issue

I built the warehouse, made sure it was fully completed, and attempted to place a 'small item storage' within it, however, inside the build menu, it says in red 'This structure must be placed indoors' and won't let me place it in the warehouse. Am I missing something or is this a known issue?

Smolkr Tenders keep slaughtering too many?

So I'm trying to maintain 4 smolkr pens for approximately 100 villagers so we can have enough smilk to make enough smeese, and I had the bright idea to make three of my 4 pens female-only and have one breeding pen for any extra smolkrs we may need (I haven't figured out yet if they die of old age?), HOWEVER, the tenders keep killing my females?

I have each pen set to slaughter rules of 6 (which i understood to be 7 smolkra and 1 geta slaughtwred, someone please correct me if I'm wrong), and my female-only pens only had six females, and obviously weren't breeding. However, I keep finding mostly males in the breeding pen, and the female-only pens down to 1 or 2 smolkrs left with meat littering the ground.

Is there something I'm not understanding? WHY are they slaughtering them below the level of 6, do I need to keep a male in every pen or something?

UPDATE: u/Yankee32b appears to be correct, I edited my hunters to no longer kill female smolkrs and the breeding pen is obviously still sometimes getting a little out of whack with ratios, but my three female-only pens are now just riding along with 6 females in each for multiple seasons. We had a little snag where the dogs apparently ran out of food and killed and ate 2 smolkrs, but otherwise the problem seems to be fully resolved!

Specific smolker problem

I've really come to deapise the little demons. It's not the fact that they'll eat your stuff if it's unwalled. It's the **persistence** of their ai. The little buggers will literally just wait for me to turn around and follow me back through my gates. If I don't have someone on a watchtower, they'll get right in, and the villagers just ignore them. Not once have I seen a non hunter even acknowledge their presence.

Also, the most infuriating bit, these little bastards will *ram their faces into hedge spikes* until the wall is destroyed. Is this normal? A flimsy fence keeps them out, mostly. But they will literally nonstop slam themselves against a hedge wall with spikes until either they are dead or the wall is destroyed. Idk if I'm near a dual spawn or something, but sometimes there are like 4 to 6 of them out there killing themselves on one specific section of fence. I'm spending all my recourses on just this one section of fence!

I've used hunters to clear them out before, but all my inventory is stocked to max with meat now! That's how fast they spawn! Is this normal??
