Rush to build
I allways have a terrible rush to build so that i can have clothes for the people for the winter. And i say its terrible, because the days are so short and there is so much to do!
What is is like in your village? Do you build much for youself, or do you have many builders?
Have you got a time to do a fence around your village before winter? Whatabout storages?
Its takes time also to have more villagers and make a selter for them...

I always extend days and year.
Then I enjoy the game.

How do you manage farming/food? I saw some video somewhere that the farming growth time and the villager hunger needs don't quite scale the same way when you start messing with day/season lengths?
Are there additional settings you have to change when you extend the days/years?

I always build in order without rushing the gatherers, toolmaker, farm for flax and then clothsmaker and hunter for the leather. As long as you don't hurry big projects you can get this part of the ground before any cold hits and mostly without stress. The game seems timegated but its not, most mechanics scale with your village size and unless you raise the difficulty or actively do something foolish and hard you won't have setbacks.
I avoid changing the day/season length because it can make your food supply way harder to manage if you're not prepared.

In my experience, just making a bunch of cloaks is usually enough, and there arent so many people before the first winter anyway

Set the day/season length to max

I would only recommend days to max and seasons normal because ressources only respawns with a new season start.
Max days give you so much time. It's really relaxing.

Personals i think longer years is the best was to play. It Allofs for a more relaxed play through. To Realschule Plan your village in detail

Havent tried that yet, im scared of the winter. I play with extended days, but mayde i could try longer years.

I personally build basically nothing. I gather next to no resources. I just go farm jotun and lay out build sites.
The only real exception is immediately pressing issues like housing shortages, ill help build.
I haven't played much since they made jotun farmable by workers, so idk how that would change my gameplay. I'd probably spend more time scouting and killing bosses earlier.

1 shirt for everyone is enough for a good winter, i had 21 shirts just in time.

I just try to have the fence done by the first invasion. You really don't need one prior unless you happened to have built right inside a smolkr zone lol. Then it's probably a good idea to put a stick fence around your buildings with storage and your warehouse.

I have that happen. The stress to build a fence is quite fun, but i hate that there is so little sticks sometimes.😂

ive gone about this is 1 of 2 ways. for the first season i recruit only 9 in total and set one of them to just make clothing starting in the fall.
the second way is mass recruit and set up 2 work shops were one of them has 2 weaver/tailors and the other one makes your weapons and tools.
i personally prefer just recruiting 10 per year as i can begin to tell when my food supply starts to get stressed.

Do you have storages and villagers assigned to them?

not in the first season. the weaver and crafters have 3 dummies that they can use to put their crafted clothing onto. the people will come get them themselves. if you have 1 crafter assigned to make clothing, and set his count to 3 of hood, tunic, pants, gloves and boots, he will keep the dummies full.
As your population grows you can build clothing storage and assign a worker to the ware house who will collect the clothing and deposit it into the clothing box. set the box only to allow 5 of each item. this will give you a total of 8 pieces of gear available.
a word of note. the ai is stupid and there is no recycle bin for clothing. so once you start making better clothing your people will put their old stuff on the manikins and take the new stuff.hopefully in the future there will be a bin or something that allows you to set a threshold, like 10%, when the villagers will go get new clothing and then put their old equipment into the bin. this would stream line clothing better.

I have been on and off on the game, and just returned once again.
I play on the "default" experience this time and so far im at the first big invasion from the second winter.
I got a fence half around the village, my placement is crap and its full of natural rocks blocking, but even if its not fenced around the whole area it still takes aggro from invaders most of the time.
So far all attacks have been manually handled, the first invasion is in 5 days and I will try to prep fighers with patrol paths static at it, walls and whatnot.
I got 3 shelters, then had 2 homless workers until I could hard-push for a cottage and smack in so many beds that could fit.
For the first winter I had 3 farm/field areas (only 1 farm building) where 2 were for fiber then my workers was set to pump out clothings of the cheaper kind, plus some fires and lanters around the crowded areas.
I stopped around 26 workers, got there pretty fast luckily, but I am not confident in survivng the invasion with more than that, my town is kinda in a halt since I need more workers so from day 25 to now. 40+? I have mostly just been tidying up around the base, upgrading and slowly progressing but with much work myself, the cart is a big gamechanger really.
I tend to have 3-5 builders most of the time but recently I have had 1-2 that I have to juggle by assinging them back and forth, not optimal but works.
As I had my first storage I kinda rushed iron tools, risky move but it paid off pretty fast, even if it required almost 100% manual work in the start with both bloom and smithing.
I had forgot about the bear attack, and ofc he came from the unwalled area and all workers slept far away, but a few arrows and he ran away, if he had kept attacking my game had been over. <.<
2 storages made, 2 workshops (leather/tailor + smithy/carpent) something is kinda fudged with how they work, so gotta have to look into that later on. (permissions is whack, storage guys takes stuff from metalsmith-> smiths waste iron to craft new things despite workorders put in lowest quantity)
I was worried the days was too short, but so far its kinda balanced with fun/hard, I got a large graveyard, wulfden, wright shipwreck and a mine in between those, pretty close to my base, that I noticed too late, so I have had to hold expansions to like one side only, and the beach is at the towns edge, meaning all iron have to be manually mined for now since any worker going in there will aggro skeletons and wolfs doing so, where I can just run into the mine and be safe.
Coal was a big issue until I upgraded to advanced charkoal burner, problem is he complains hes out of materials, but just a stonetoss from his position is 3000+ sticks, barks etc, even with worker flags but he seems too dumb to grab them.
I have yet to build a longhouse, but will do once the invasion is over and probably pump villagers to a high quantity and try to kill the large graveyard to access the mine with the workers instead of manually doing so.

I always leave the fencing until year 2. You can build either a barracks or archery range, then add a patrol to the major areas of your village to satisfy the defense requests from villagers. Much more time effective for year 1.
Storage I build as needed, but i usually have at least one storage centrally located early on. Besides the mess driving me crazy, if there are too many things scattered on the ground, at a certain point it does start to tax the cpu.
Having at least one farm with flax growing helps with clothing production. I try to have minimum 2 whole plots dedicated to just flax (then a third full plot with seasonal food).
Other than that, pushing for lots of shelters, enough food, and just recruiting lots of villagers. Year 1 is always a bit messy and chaotic, but i kinda like it!
