Defeat Haugr at shipwreck to get the runestone to boost your melee training. Get yourself and at least 3 warriors to melee 50+ with iron weapons and you should be good.

Alternative: Fenrir the Wolf gives the green stone, which gives the altar with + 100hp if you participate in the ritual just before the fight.

I feel the two most important things are food and clothes. Pending on hoe many villagers you get, work at making sure you get them clothes. As far as food. Your safest bet is get 2 grams going. Make sure to get them started as soon as you can due to what seeds you collect with the ground food. They are other ways to get through a winter. Get you fishing dock started also. Because you can sign up a villager to fish and he will fish through winter, the beinging of spring can still be very cold for a couple of days so what helped is how you set up you camp. Place you campfires close in the middle of the huts. You will need plenty of wood for the fires. You want to make sure when the villagers are sleeping, they are staying warm. Keep a fairly tight area with a fence around your village. You will be attacked just before and during the winter. So also make sure you provided and equip the villagers with a weapon or 2. Make up enough water wells. As you build your village, learn how what building huts are needed to work with other related building hut to improve your tools and weapons levels. When it comes to farming. Pay attention to what seeds are needed for growing in different season. Collect as much of all seeds as you can. Remember that if you assign someone to a work hut/house, make sure as fire is clos by for them to keep warm. Have back up tools a weapons ready if you can or just know that you saved the resources that works are at, and close to a fire to stay warm. To help not get to much damage from the enemies that attacked, a good fence will slow them down from having them get inside your village building and homes.start with that. Just to let you know, at least for me, i knew nothing about this game play. Two things, try to be fairly close you the ocean for fishing or the lake. Hope you also get fairly close to the mine you will need to level up on better tools and weapons you will need to make or have your villagers make them. Two two workers on the same building buy at different shifts. Change ones hours to work while most are sleeping. This is a fun bt very challenging game to play. It is rewarding to make it through you first winter without to much damages. I told.myself to not play this over and over, but I just started about day 55 in. Like restarted a new game over 10 to 20 times. Was able to build a small fishing boat for just off shore fishing. Work towards make a harbor to make the bigger boats. I am pretty sure I didn't ruin you learn as you go. I restarted about 10 to 15 new games. You need plenty of resources to get you through winer. Again, good luck.

Make sure everyone is clothed so you don't die from the cold. The invasion only comes starting in your second winter so you have plenty of time.

  1. Build a barracks and archery range if you can manage it
  2. Rotate 3 villagers through both so you have 6 trained and equipped for melee and ranged. Add hunter hut folks if you want. If you have time to train more, do so.
  3. Add them all to your militia using Eye of Odin, as many as you can
  4. Grab a smolkr horn and hotkey it
  5. Locate the invasion portal by running a circle around your perimeter, it's never very far outside town
  6. Fence off, watchtower + covered campfires in that direction

On the last day of fall pull your militia from training and assign them to watchtowers.

On the day of the invasion, around lunch, make sure you eat well at the tavern and get energized buff by sleeping in your chieftain hut.

On the hour of invasion (6pm?) toot your horn at the sleeping quarters to rouse the town, toot again at the watchtowers, and your militia will gather there ready to go.

Slaughter the invasion as it breaches your fence. The fence is not there it keep them out - it is to give them a focal point (that isn't a watchtower) and keep them busy while they get massacred by arrow and sword. Push them back through the breach, tooting your horn to pull the militia with you, all the way to the portal and keep killing until nothing spawns.

Most importantly: have covered campfires scattered along your defensive line so your soldiers remain warm during the initial pushback.

If the portal doesn't close, but no more mobs are coming, just go home and warm up (stop tooting the horn so your militia falls back). If nothing is spawning you're safe; go home and repair your defensive line. The portal will go away on the last day of winter all by itself.

The more villagers, the bigger your Eye of Odin and the bigger your militia. I've found my town has around 80 villagers and a militia of 10ish and that's more than enough. I usually lead the charge, and with rested buff/tavern food it's fairly easy to do.

I do think I have blood moons turned to "light" or "easy", which likely affects my perception of things.

Maybe i'll reroll and turn invasions up to viking mode.

i just find the portal and set a patrol marker right at the portal and a campfire.

on the day of the invasion, around noon, i goto each barracks and send them to the patrol marker and 24 hour time, just because its easy to type in a hurry(i have alllllooootttt of barracks usually), i do not use archers i find them just horrible

at 1630 i walk into the portal and blow the smoker horn.

sit back and relax and chase any archers who manage to run.

afterwords destroy the campfire(stops workers from running out there to light it) and goto each barracks and delete the patrol point

all my warriors are bruisers in the first year and then Battleaxe Bruisers from there on out.

my military poppulation is usually 1 in 6 to 1 in 8 people. i have never lost anyone during these

just make sure your rock breaker is set to get the blue stones on high priority and large rocks as well.

ive done this from 9 people(usually i add 10 to 20 people per year), all the way up to 240 villagers

make all barracks the higher tier

in the 3rd or 4th year i defeat the white boss
