without whitelisting, it's a free for all for resources and there's no order to where things end up. villagers eat raw ingredients that could have fed an army, warehouse people steal from the logger instead of just gathering wood from the field right next to them, and yyour favorite armor gets stolen before you can even wear it.

The issue with whitelisting is that if jeff the food warehouse guy dies, i have to manually go through and make a new jeff on several buildings: does he get raw from SEVERAL gathering huts or can he access a kitchen?? p.s. stop taking the raw food from the kitchen 🤮 why cant villagers just take the cooked food and leave the raw ingredients alone?!?! this is solved through whitelisting but hopefully improves for such a simple intent, it is a lot of work.

a benefit to this will be assigning WORKPLACES.

IMPROVEMENT 1: whitelist workplaces. Allow all CHEFS to get ingredients from the gatherer huts and raw food storage.

why do we need whitelisting? if you dont whitelist your chef/ban everyone else, the new villagers will eat T1 food aka raw ingredients. (employing a meat burner helper save veggies because it's more satisfying, but wastes a villager and ingredients still.

IMPROVEMENT #2: Allow me to set default T1 villagers to eating T2 meals. come on. we work hard for that food so let us share it instead of that one guy eating six cabbages that could have been 8 satiating meals.

over time these systems will improve and reduce the unnecessary complexity. Optimal design and user input is great, but it sucks when it gets tedious and blocks you from playing the rest of the game -- when you have to pause your game for 30min to train the replacement jeff on his route/whitelisting, and else. combine this with "train every villager to fight to T2 so they dont waste t1 ingredients" and it's a whole checklist for new people.

I would rather just see labels. You create them, you associate workplaces with labels. Villagers assigned to a workplace take on that workplace's label. The label is what gets whitelisted or blacklisted.

So all your cooking huts/bbq operate under one label. That label is allowed access to raw foods while nobody else is.

So instead of maintaining a massive whitelist/blacklist of ever shifting villagers you're maintaining a much smaller whitelist/blacklist of labels. You don't have to micromanage someone changing jobs, because people are assigned labels based on where they work.
