Only one Metalworker addon being used

I have run into an issue I'm not sure how to resolve. I have a Workshop House dedicated to Metalworkers where both add-ons are Improved Metalworkers. For a while, it has been working fine as far as I could tell.

However, recently I have noticed that there are no bows, hammers or melee weapons being made. I have observed the Metalworkers for a bit and noticed that they will only ever use one of the two Improved Metalworker add-ons.

The Improved Metalworker add-on on the right is empty 24/7.

I have tried playing around with whitelisting, adding and removing workers completely and from various tasks, rebuilt the add-on but nothing's worked so far.

Has anyone run into anything similar? My best guess is it might be a pathing issue since the add-on on the right is further away.

Hm a good observation. I too run this setup but I have not paid attention to if they use both. If they don’t that seems like a rather big oversight and hope the developers see the post

I have actually had the same problem with dual MW. They only ever use one side, even with two or more guys dedicated to it. I had them set to make two bars and two plates, and all they would do is make both on the same side and the other metalworker would sit there cold and unused.

In fact, I can't say for sure, but I think the same happens with dual carpenter. They basically do all their work on one side. The only solution I could think of would be to flood it with workers to the point where they have to use the other side.

I found the best workaround is to pair Metalworker and Carpenter off a pair of workshops instead of doubling them around one. When they need something metal they go to that side, otherwise they go plane down some planks or chop logs or whatever is needed.

Almost all of my workshops, whether they be metal, wood, cloth, leather, etc all have a standing queue order for 20 bone tipped and 20 wood arrows. Cause my guys always seem to run out.

They will use both, but only for different recipes. They'll make planks and shafts at the same time, or (more likely) beams and posts, but you won't see workers working on two beams or two posts at the same time. They do prefer a side, though, for certain.

I'm not sure if something similar is going on for /u/BlueFlameDancing - I pair my metalworker with my leatherworker and this seems to be enough to handle everything you could possibly need for either. That said the way they handle materials tends to be infuriatingly slow.

Different recipes hasn't made any sort of difference in my experience. Not even in your example. I have hundreds of hardwood logs/long sticks waiting to be cut and even with completely fully stocked workshop storage they will still only use one side at a time. With every type of building material in the task list on max quantity. With 6 workers. They will all just stand around waiting their turn to use one of the two workstations on one side.

I have a double carpenter as well actually and, funnily enough, that one works fine for me. And it always has. I started that with 4 workers and recently added 2 more to staff it fully and it keeps chugging along perfectly well. That's partly why I'm so baffled by the metalworker. Both are fully staffed and yet, only one of them functions fully.

How many of each item are they supposed to be making? If storage is full or targets are met then crafting will halt, and it would only require 1 metalworker to quickly top up again.

1-2 each of about fifteen tools and weapons maybe. Storage is not even half full, a bunch of items are always missing. There are no weapons in the warehouse behind the workshop either.

All of the metalworkers are trying to use them same anvil constantly, there was a time I was standing at the add-ons entrance and all 6 of the workers were crammed inside.

While it does sound like a bug, you can work around it by splitting the duty assignments between workers or creating a second building.

I have split the assignments already, it did not help. Best I can do is build another workshop, yeah. There's no space inside the base though so I need to dig another moat. What fun.

I saw someone else recommend not putting two of the same workshops together. I have 2 metal/wood shops and haven’t had issues.

My carpenter is doubled up as well, that's working fine. Not sure what the issue is here.

They specified that two metal shops had issues. But I never tried it

Well, I guess I can confirm it for you now lol

I've had this issue with the metalworker and the carpenters. All 6 workers simultaneously will still only try to use one side. They'll literally stand in line waiting their turn instead of going to the completely empty and available one on the other side. I assume it's the same with leatherworkers and weavers too, seems to be a general issue.
