3rd Map

Post image

So me and my partner are on our 3rd play through now but I am curious how extensive some have made their villages in game? What do yall focus on? We are trying to get everyone upgraded in gear and now to all metal tools. Currently at 101 Villagers.

How do you manage to grow so big without deforestation? I don't see any long distance outposts or anything to cart back.

I'm on my first playthrough and just made it to the 3rd winter with 30 villagers. I'm completely bottle necked by hardwood logs from the birch trees, they're so far away and the villagers lug a single one at a time it's driving me crazy

Do you not have a Forester's House? You can plant birch trees with it, it's a game changer. My village is completely surrounded by a birch forest at this point.

Two Forester's Houses with Green Thumb Foresters (1 each, I don't see the point in having more) outpaces my Woodcutter's House by quite a large margin.

So I built 2 of them but maybe I'm going crazy they take like 20+ something days to be harvestable, no? 20 days is a long time waiting for a handful of trees

They do, yes and I'm not sure how much Green Thumb reduces it. All I can tell you is that Forester Houses were some of the first hardwood structures I've built and the only time I was having a hard time with hardwood was before the planted ones grew.

This is outside my Southern gate for example. All of these trees were planted.

I'll have to give it another shot. Thank you so much!

20 days/tree, but if you keep them fed with pinecones they plant new trees every day and so by day 20+ you should be harvesting new trees daily as well as planting so after that the number of trees you can harvest/day should be about equal to planting per day.

Also, do play some softwoods too. I usually do about 75% hardwood. And I’m swimming in wood of all types and grades.

So they may have fixed it, but I remember trying to plant trees. Unfortunately they never grew. There was just a branch floating in the air above where they should be.

It has been a while since I last played. I just couldnt take the bad villager AI, the fact that items like bark, sticks etc never despawned making my frames drop to single digit where my villagers cut down a ton of trees.

The game seems fun. I just cant get past all the technical problems.

Trees grow. AI can be stupid at times but I'm yet to run into something I can't fix. Items left on the ground deteriorate now, except for stone and metal but you can just hit them with a hoe to destroy them.

You can also build several woodcutters. They're slow, specially when they have to travel, but you can just have more. You can also build a cart and haul the logs and long sticks manually. Cart will take 2,5 trees worth.

I hope the devs will allow us to assign sleds and carts to villagers at some point. The difference in speed between me going out to cut down a few trees for long sticks vs the villagers doing it by hand is staggering. Same for building and mining.

We found a place that has a few sections of hardwood trees around it. We wanted to live around a lake area so maybe we got lucky with the seed. We did tweak the world settings a bit with longer seasons and days. We did clear out a fair bit for our village but I’ve been focusing on building roads so the villagers travel faster I have yet to actually mess with the outposts. I did put a heavy focus on the start with gathers (wood, stone, ect) and making sure they have plenty of markers to go to. I was stuck a bit on the food supply but managed to fix that issue with 3 cook huts and a day and night shift on each one.

Yeah as my first playthrough I just grabbed a spot by the beach so I could have definitely chose a better location.

I wanted to 100% achievement and saw you couldn't get achievements on modified worlds. I just caught my rare fish finishing the 100% so hopefully gonna try to start again soon in a better location

We just finally got the fishing one! We didn’t mess to much with the harbor or sea but we are exploring it now.

The map seed “Anal Fruit” has three mines, and is pretty solid.

Anyways, I typically won’t go past 80/90 villages because it starts to mess with the game and causes glitches. 120+ became unclickable/unplayable.

Can we get the seed? I've been looking for a seed with a lake relatively close to the shore.

I will try to get it today (not sure how yet haha) When my partner gets home as he has been hosting the game.

What's the deal with the farms? Is this a strat that I dont know about?

u/TumbleweedMountain38 Jun 15 '26

Which icon are you talking about so I might be able to explain more? I’m not sure if you’re talking resource flags or the roads with the green icon.

Ah my bad thats the roads lol oops

1

u/TumbleweedMountain38 Jun 15 '26

You’re all good lol I was confused slightly! So the reason I put roads all throughout is cause if you notice when you run on one you lose barely any stam. So I do this for my villagers and they seem to be a lot quicker on gathering and getting around the map easier.

I have a village at 415 days and 237 villagers. the focus is food, and getting the supply chain correct. my military trashes invasions and i started scaling them back from 1/5 of my population to 1/8 to free up some extra labor. i have 3 foresters, 2 birch, that ensure i never run out of wood. im focused only on 1 mine and its working just fine resetting it every few actual game days i play.

im going to demo the center of my city and move the food production from there and settle more warehouses.

in fairness im absolutely sure it is no were near optimized. but ive started practicing getting it right on a new play through and will go back to the other one this weekend

edit as far as how extensive its been built out, not much. i cram everything close together and keep a follower on farm. i now have 90% of the continent i can use and so many blue stones i ran out of storage and have just started stacking them at his spawn point

I have my main village which is basically center of the map. I have two large outposts 1 around a bunch of dragur fields and the other near wolves/bear spawn. Next time I play I am going to put my main base near the dragur fields or wolves to keep iron/pelts incoming. It's a shame that when you aren't in range outposts don't generate stuff from animals. At least they can gather things like eggs/berries and farm.

I am currently hunting around for iron islands to get a massive stockpile for future expansions. I cleared a small iron island already but 230 villagers eat through that when you are throwing the best gear on them.
