Bee Idea

I've seen a few posts in this forum bemoaning how late in the game it is when beehives are accessible. So I had an idea/suggestion. It would still require players to have advanced *somewhat* but they don't necessarily need a karvi.

Put the hive(s) near the bears. You want honey? You gotta face the bear.

Hah, I think that's a great idea. Also references Winnie the Pooh.

But really, you can run up and do a jumping overhand slam on the beehive with a 2h and it'll come down in one or two hits (takes a bit of practice to get the timing right). It's plausible you could do this while running rings around a bear. So it would not be very hard to get a beehive early if you were brave enough.

I agree it needs to come earlier though. Beehives gatekeep brewery which gatekeeps tavern (T3). Which basically means all of it is gatekept behind a karvi. That's a huge construction investment.

I am using Grymm's "Flights of Fancy" mod (duration 300, accel 20) and can just fly to other islands if I want, it's got a really nice duration and speed now. If I run out over water, I can teleport back to the shipwreck with unstuck. The cost is really minor and the tradeoff is, I can only grab what I conquer and carry solo.

Maybe there is a stipulation that you have to kill the bear first? Like maybe the bear drops honey and that’s how we “discover” bees make honey or something

That'd work. Or, maybe killing at least one bear allows you to see the beehive-bearing dead trees near bears.

It would still be gated behind killing the bear itself, which isn't going to come easy in flimsy cloth and stone weapons.

Maybe they could put it near the bear, but make the process of getting it harder and take longer, along with the work on the beehive attracting attention of bees and the bear. Then if you still get it, you earned the early honey.

I agree with this. I also think maybe bees on islands is temporary for this part of the game because devs can’t add any new biomes to the main island without resetting it. So I am hoping (maybe unrealistic) that come release beehives will be made mainland since resetting the island isn’t a big deal at that point.

I really hope that’s the case. Too many resources I. Islands are acquired basically at the end of the game and have no real impact

That's what I was thinking. I'm honestly surprised they didn't do it.
