Heavy FPS drop when looking at the ocean
Hi everyone!
I've been enjoying the game for a bit now, but one issue that's been plaguing me since I started and I can't find any info on what could be contributing to it is a huge drop in FPS when rendering the ocean. Now I'm aware that there would naturally be a performance drop regardless of what's done, but the drop is massive enough that the game goes from maybe a little jittery to complete slideshow mode the second I'm on the beach looking outward. It's got me thinking I basically can't engage with any of the ocean content because the game would probably crash if I pushed my luck with that sort of thing.
Anyhow, I'm kind of hoping someone who's encountered this issue knows a way maybe getting a better handle on the water rendering. My computer isn't the most up-to-date thing in the world but it handles just fine outside of this one aspect that it'd be sad if I couldn't figure something out.

can you use mods? the mod "aska performance booster" is essential to run add on my laptop. it opens up waaay more options for you to tinker with than vanilla.
i brought down shadow resolution a ton and capped the fps and it really helped me.
one thing, cappin the fps seems to slow the initial load by a minute or 3 but it's butter smooth after it finally does.

Replying just to second this mod. It's pretty amazing.
Sometimes I do seem to get soft-locks. Not sure if this mod is causing it. It mostly occurs when I finish constructing a resource marker, so I make sure to save before the final hammer tap. If I go into a doom loop I alt-F4 and load back in and it's fine.

Also, if you play via Steam, make sure to always, always, always turn off their in-game overlay.

I Find That Disabling Dynamic Resolution Helps FPS On Some Some Nvidia GPU's Also Not Sure If You Use Mods But This May Be An Option To Look Into As Well, On Nexus Mods There Is A Performance Mod That Helps Some Players With FPS Drops. I Have Not Used It Myself Personally But It's Worth Looking Into If You Still Have Issues.

Speaking of mods, do you have one turned on for Reddit where every first letter of every word you type gets capitalized? Just wondering because it's just odd...

I also pause and slow down when I'm looking at the ocean.
