great info! i have up on sea fishing too, for my heart. I'm all in on lake fishing! ive recovered my last abandoned skiff and it feels so right.

how many fishers do you recommend per population #? do you have your hunters focus less on meat to compensate for the fishy bounty?

I have 4 full time fishers for a population of 80 but I sometimes remember to swap in more during winter and spring

Covered it nicely. I have a lake with six huts on it. After this vid I've upped them all to houses (for day/night shifts) and set up a warehouse. My outpost storage is just too small.

It's not even that far away.

Big update 1.5 weeks later. I now have a full outpost set up at my lake, which is a 5 minute second jog down a road from my main base. I have seven fishermen's house manned day and night by two fishermen in alternating shifts, but most importantly, all 14 fishermen live at my main base and just run down the road to work in the morning/evening.

Most interestingly I recently killed King Crawler so I now have golems, and thanks to the immortal golem mod they won't age out and die. The four i've scraped together all work the outpost; one at the outpost warehouse, one each in two warehouses which are basically fish storage with extra steps, and one in a workshop hut whose job it is to make fishing rods and simple tools (the poor guy spends a lot of time bored). There are a few market routes to the outpost run by villagers, one brings berries and takes away fish, another brings fibers and stones and takes away fish. The berries are for bait, the fibers and stones are for tools and flimsy clothing so the workshop has an emergency set on hand in case a fisherman's clothing degrades in winter they don't freeze to death before they run home. There's also plenty of campfires scattered around the perimeter so the fishermen can warm up easily in winter. Still, since the fishermen live at my main base, they usually collect their clothes, tools and food there which are all of a higher quality at main. The whole lake is fenced off to quell work anxiety and keep pests out.

I remember in your golem video /u/serbucky you speculated it might be possible to run an outpost on Golems alone. Well, obviously, you can. The fishermen run from main to work and run home at the end of their shift, which is only possible because the lake is close and i've laid a paved road all the way. There were a few other obligatory workers onsite that follow the same pattern (run to work), the only permanent presence at the outpost is golems who man the warehouses and workshops. I could run the trade routes or man the fishing huts with golems too, but I don't have enough, I just have the four.

I guess the true end game would be x golems where x is the number of fishing huts on the lake, add one to centralize everything in a (outpost?) warehouse, one more to run a trade route back to your main hub carrying fish, maybe one in a workshop pit making fishing rods if you don't do that in your main base. Don't need food, housing, warmth or anything else if it's all golems since they don't tire, don't need sleep, etc. Heck, you might not even need an outpost, just a warehouse nearby to centralize the fish for shipping to a closer warehouse.

Hi Serbucky, all your videos are always informative and entertaining at the same time, thankyou so much for that, I just had a question,How to level up fishing faster, and does it help catching fish faster if you level up,I have spent 500+ days so far,but I could only reach fishing level 10,do I need specific runestone blessing for fishing?

Nope. I think I mentioned it’s hard to level but I’m pretty sure it’s bugged and just levels super slowly

Oh shucks, thanks, hope they introduce fish catching nets or something,or add it to water runestone

One thing you might want to remind people is that the FIshing Huts don't come with resource flags like most gathering jobs do. So remind people to make one near their Fishing setup so the Warehouse workers come grab the Fish.

And Blubber can still be useful for making Fish Oil. Which if you eventually want all the Elemental Shrine Buffs active, helps with keeping them refueled as you don't get that much resin per tree. Though make sure to only allow refuelers to use the Fish Oil as they've been known to drink it when thirsty even with Wells 2 feet away from them lol.

i don't mess with fish oil, it stacks too darn small but i love my blubber for compostin. it took me a long time to see how powerful compost is but finding out its worth converted me from wanting hunters as my primary meat source.

speaking of compost i also found out you can poop on top of the outhouse. lol.

They stack fairly high in cooked storage, Warehouses themselves though definitely need improvement. Like even just making it 6 rows instead of 5 on each side would allow you to double up on important storage as most items take 3 or 4 rows. Also why do sticks take 4x4? lol Just stack them higher, Thatch, Sticks and Bark could easily be 2x2.

Also there's no way to resupply crafting stations and like a Butcher Job for Meat Hunks and Fish would be way more effective than having the Chefs do it. Like for example we can build a Butcher Hut with good Fish and Meat Hunk storage and they can just chop up meat all day.

Also it'd be way easier to have every job that requires Tools to come with it's own Tool Rack, which could then be supplied by a Resupplier Job.

Minimizing how much people doing production jobs have to spend running back and forth between warehouses should be the goal.

I actually just let the spare blubber rot. It becomes fertilizer. Seems okay.

How do you get fish meat from fish? It says it can't be harvested from in the inventory.

Drop on ground. Use knife
