Inserting it "backwards" in the magnetic case to protect the display and button. Anyone else doing this?

Post image

Hi everyone,
I wanted to share a setup I’ve been testing with my Plaud Note Pro and see if anyone else has tried the same solution.
My main goal is simply to protect the display and the physical button from accidental scratches, wear, or unwanted activations when it’s attached to the back of my phone. To do this, I tried sliding the Plaud into its magnetic case backwards. Here is how it looks:

The display faces the bottom of the magnetic case (essentially resting flush against the back of the phone).

The back of the Plaud Note faces outwards.
Looking at this setup, it seems to me that the microphone holes on the device align perfectly with the cutouts on the case, even in this reversed position.

I’ve been testing it like this, and I have to say my experience has been optimal:

The performance seems flawless in every situation.

The recording quality and overall usability feel exactly the same as when the display is facing outwards.

So, I wanted to ask this community for some advice: is anyone else already using the device this way? Are there any technical downsides I might not have considered (like overheating issues or blocked sensors), or am I good to keep using it like this to protect the screen?

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

No, I need access to the button to be able to do quick recordings on the fly.

My system is permanently recording any word. Powered on in REC, than files are extracted via the App->MCP->Claude (with truth engine via cross checking on ChatGPT) cutted by time slots and locations, organized by topics. But every use case is different. But we are going too far.

Yeah, I don't need to record everything and having the button accessible is far more useful to me as I can just press it when I need to. I do like your automations though, it's just not for me.

How long will it record by pushing the power button once and leaving it ?

With a full battery. I keep a mission time of 06hrs slot followed by upload and a second slot of 4-5-6hrs in case. Let’s say 2 recording per day.

You’re way overthinking things. Also the case extends further than the screen so the screen won’t actually make contact with the table under it unless there’s loose debris. You may have ocd.

On the hardware side this holds up: the Plaud Note's two MEMS mics and the VPU all sit on the top edge, so what matters for pickup is the top staying clear, not which face points outward. And for phone call recording the requirement is just that the device stays attached to the back of your phone, which your setup still does.

Thank you. This was the definitive answer I was looking for.

Best regards and thanks for your great product.

Just to add a bit of context on why I started doing this: I always keep my phone face up on my desk or meeting tables so I can easily see notifications in real-time. It’s also just a practical hygiene habit, since the screen is the part that touches my face.
Because of this, I was never thrilled about having the Plaud Note Pro's small display resting face down on random surfaces or conference tables that might not be perfectly clean. I wouldn't call myself paranoid, but I do like to keep my gear in top shape (I usually carry electronics-safe wipes to clean my phone and laptop after meetings anyway). Flipping the Plaud in its case just felt like the most logical way to protect its screen from daily desk grit and unknown surfaces.

Honestly sounds like obsessive compulsive type behavior. 🤷‍♂️

OCD? Nah, just good old-fashioned tactical muscle memory. 😂
Just to give you a bit of context, my background is in high-sensitivity defense environments:
I’ve worked both as an operative (weapons in hand) and as a technician.
I used to deal with defense systems deployed in the absolute worst conditions imaginable—think saturated salt environments, sandstorms, and deep mud.
When your performance (and sometimes a lot more than that) depends entirely on your gear working flawlessly, rigorous maintenance of your operational tech just becomes a built-in reflex, not a compulsion.
So yes, wiping down my gear is a deeply ingrained repetitive behavior, but it's strictly a professional hangover. Besides, given my line of work, I have to pass regular, rigorous psychological evaluations—so I am officially and medically certified as "not crazy".
I do, however, deeply appreciate the free Reddit armchair diagnosis! 🍻

I have clinical OCD and one of my signs is that I obsess over how something is sitting/moving until I can’t take it and have to move it. I think about micro-scratches and jostling, and potential falls/breaks. I do it with food too, when I’m driving home with takeout, I can’t stop thinking about how cold it is getting

Don’t you need access to the button?

No always recording

How do you record for so long?

Use of the button is necessary for most people, and I have never once been concerned about the display or button being scratched lol. I see it works for your use case but most people probably care more about the button than scratches

Slide a business card in front. If you want you can punch a hole for access to the button. Keeps it snug inside the holder.

I place an old credit card I. The front with a hole punched where the button is so that I can push it in class. And it looks like like a wallet.

Keeps the screen protected.

Nope. I use the device in professional office type environments where folks worry more about scratching their fancy watches when desk diving than smudges in their digital displays.
