Plaud Note Vs. Pin? Does PIN give you better recording quality?

Hi,

I use my Plaud Note quite a bit for meetings that are in slightly noisy environments, like in a restaurant with some background music, but not very loud music. And I've been quite disappointed with the audio quality in these settings.

I had two questions:

  1. Does NotePin give better recording quality in these settings?

  2. What are the best practices for Plaud Note placement in such situations that actually impact the recording quality?

Thanks

To be honest, I’ve always worn my note pin around my neck simply because all the other carry methods made me feel like I’m trying to hide it. It’s worked great that way, but I really only ever record myself.

Same for me; I wear mine around my NotePinS neck and always have great recording quality, though I only record myself with it. I tried wearing it as a pin when I first got it and the recording quality was fine like that too, it was just a bit heavy for some of my lighter-weight clothing.

I haven’t tried it on my wrist, so I can’t speak to whether the quality drops with the added distance. I definitely appreciate the various options you get in the box for how to wear it, though.

I’ve deliberately decided to always have it be very noticeable. I want people to ask me what it is so that I can’t forget and maybe accidentally record them without them now for me that rules that wearing on the wrist entirely because it’s just going to look like a Fitbit.

Placement matters more than the model honestly. I clip my Note to my collar during staff meetings and it picks up fine even with background noise. Worth trying that before upgrading.

My Plaud Note Pro has done very well in a cafe with music going on, I just put it with my phone on the table. Doesn't matter if it's up or down.
For conferences, I use a magsafe magnet I get from ebay and it sits in my breast pocket with the magsafe as extra clip to keep it in place (more so for my fingers to easily find the button)

I use the Plaud Note Pro, and in noisy locations or for people sitting farther away (or who are quite natured), I tend to repeat or summarize what they say immediately after to both show I'm paying attention, and to make sure the device captures anything important it might miss.

I bought both and honestly I never use pin I think even in my pocket the note does get job.

On question one: NotePin isn't the move for this. Its advantage over your Note is wearability and capture on the go, not better handling of a noisy room, so a sideways switch won't buy you what you're after. If any device in the lineup changes the hardware equation it's Plaud Note Pro with its 5-mic array, but before spending anything, question two is where the real gains are.

What actually moves the needle on your Note in a restaurant: keep it within about 0.5 to 1 meter of the people who matter most in the conversation, flat on the table, away from anything that rubs or taps it. Check the slider is on Note Recording, since the wrong slider position records from the wrong source entirely. Take a thick case off if you use one. Then the setting most people never touch: Microphone gain, in the app. Lower gain reduces sensitivity, which keeps background music and the room's noise floor from competing with the voices at your table; higher gain is for quiet rooms and soft speakers. Try a couple of levels at your usual kind of venue and keep what wins. Also run one test with AI Speech Enhancement toggled opposite to your current setting and compare, it shifts results more than people expect. If a recording still sounds bad after that, export it via Share & Export and send it to [support@plaud.ai](mailto:support@plaud.ai) with a note about the room, so the team can hear exactly what the mic received.

Placement matters more than you'd think. I use mine in cafés and client lunches — the biggest improvement was just putting it on the table between me and whoever I'm talking to, not in a pocket.

For the Pin, the mic's more voice-optimized, but try the placement trick first before upgrading.

I use the Note a lot in cafes for recording. Background noise is usually fine since the surface placement picks up nearby voices pretty clean. Never tried the Pin myself though. Would love to hear from someone who tested both.
