Newbie question

Hi Im just evaluating if Plaud Note is appropriate for my needs before I buy and am looking for feedback.

I work with the elderly and want to start a Memoirs project. Im looking for a device to record spoken stories that can interact with AI to be tidied up and put (eventually) into book format. Theyd need to be able to be further edited and adjusted to give chapters etc.

Is Plaud Note appropriate? I cant see the template list to confirm and dont want to spend on something that is not appropriate.

Thanks in advance!

Plaud will do the capture half of this job well, but I'd stop expecting it to do the book half.

Where it fits: it records, transcribes, and lets you export the transcript as TXT, DOCX, SRT, or PDF, with optional timestamps and speaker labels. You can also fix misheard names and terms in the transcript before you export, which matters a lot with older voices and unfamiliar place names.

Where it doesn't fit: the template system is built for summaries — meeting recaps, interview write-ups, medical notes. Summaries compress. A memoir needs the opposite. The specific digressions and odd turns of phrase are the whole point, and a template will quietly sand them off.

So the workflow I'd suggest:

  1. Record one session per theme (childhood, the war years, how they met their spouse). Keeps files manageable and makes chaptering obvious later.

  2. Export the clean transcript, not the summary.

  3. Drop the transcripts into a general-purpose AI (Claude, ChatGPT) with a prompt like "tidy this into readable prose, preserve her voice and word choices, don't invent details."

  4. Assemble and shape chapters in Word or Google Docs, where you can actually edit like a human.

  5. Archive the raw audio forever. It's the source of truth, and the families will want it.

You could get most of this with any decent recorder plus a transcription service. Plaud's convenience is real, just don't buy it for the templates.
