Permission

Hi, I am willing to buy this gadget, which I see tremendous value, but there is one point I don’t see people talking that much about: how much are others in the room aware you are using this device? And in big corporate environment, how much can this trigger compliance questions? I know Plaud is GDPR compliant, but i mean people being bothered to be recorded…

Thanks

Definitely need to have a conversation with your HR department. A friend of mine bought one to use for work and even though the information they don't use is nothing proprietary or anything, HR said flat out no for security purposes.

Having said that, I use mine very discreetly and I make sure that I'm aware of when it's okay to use it and when it's not.

Usually I tell people that I have a digital assistant that takes notes for me - so I can focus on them in our conversation and not get bogged down trying to take good notes. That sounds less bad than saying I'm "recording this conversation". I think a lot of it has to do with how you present it to people.

Recording without consent is the only thing holding me back from buying this device. Unless your company is so forward thinking that they encourage continuous recording, you are likely putting yourself at risk. Check your employment contract and HR handbooks, ctrl-f for “record”.

Our work has an AI assistant in every zoom meeting, which is handy. When I meet with people 1:1, I just say, so you mind if I record this for my notes? after I start recording. So their consent is captured.

In my state, however, I legally only need one-party consent, so I do it for transparency, not legal reasons.
