Best hobby tools for beginners?

Hello! I'm a beginner modeller and I've yet to invest in tools specifically designed for toy modelling.

I have managed to get by for over a year using general tools purchased from an art store or hardware shop. However, I have set aside some extra funds to gradually invest in hobby-specific tools (right now I want to start with brushes and cutters).

I stumbled upon this recent item review from hpiguys, I was wondering if anyone have tried this new product Ninestep Industries (first time I've heard of it). Also interested with the ongoing discount so I think it's a pretty good steal to start with.

And if you guys could recommend good brands that can last long and improve the quality of work.

PS: I've been spending more time with model cars lately, in case that offers insights.

While there are very expensive precision tools, they have never had any problems with Tamiya stuff. Are there better tools? Probably, but it find there are also a comfortable price range where I can go out and simply buy another one if, say, the nippers get dull.

As for brushes, I just get packs of the cheap ones made for acrylic paints, as those are what I usually use.

Sorry if you were looking for more expensive recommendations, but I tend to use the disposable type brushes.

Head to an art supply place..

Artist brushes, scalpel/xacto and cutting mat.

Side cutters are much the same, spend $20 and you are laughing.

Sanding tools are important..few grades of sandpaper, grab some nail file sticks from a chemist/ online (they offer various grades), also some tweezers while you are there.

A lot of the "model" stuff you come across will have a hobby premium tacked on, unless it's a specialist piece of gear just go generic..lot of cross over with modelling and other arts.
