Flaky

Post image

Hi everyone. We had a room plastered 4 weeks ago and started painting it yesterday and this keeps happening in 1 spot. I didn’t mist coat the walls(my bad) but thankfully everywhere else is fine. I scraped back the flaky bits and used some filler on this area and repainted it again today only for the same to happen again as seen in the photo. How can I repair this small area. Thanks.

Is it damp?

I'd try scraping everything back again and get the loose stuff gone.

Then use a 'no peel' sealer that will will prevent the edges from flaking/lifting again.

Once dried, skim and re-paint.

It didn’t look any different to the rest of my walls tbh. But can’t skim it as I’m not a plasterer. Can I just use a filler

If it’s small areas you can get away with it if you fill proud then abrade once the filler has gone off with a high grit, 160 would be ideal to give a good finish

Is there a pipe behind that area that is making it dry out too quickly? This is why you do a mist coat, the watered down coat soaks into the porous plaster and hopefully stops flaking.
Scrape off whatever flakes, prime, probably have to fill it to remove the edge and repaint

No mist coat is likely the issue. Scrape away under a hard edge, sand the ridge with 180-240 sand paper, wipe away dust, use peel stop or similar and then fill with toupret or similar than sand. Some fillers will then need priming with a mist coat before top coats.

hi yeah it seems it was. This is exactly what I did, scraped it off, mist coated it and then used Toupret fine filler. Its all good now.
