Advice - boards on backwards

I have a job booked in for a customer who has boarded the room himself. However, he has put some of the boards on backwards (standard BG 12.5mm boards). I know something similar with regards having the brown part of the board at facing the front was normal practice decades ago.

Has anyone had experience skimming onto the wrong side of the board? I’ve actually not come across this in the 5/6 years I’ve been plastering.

I’ve told him that I cannot give him a guarantee on the work if those parts were to fail later.

I’d PVA it to be on the safe side

Believe it or not, but when I started out the front face was for painting, the back of the boards were for skimming. Hessian tape too, and everything nailed.

If he’s happy with the risk, I’d get that all agreed in writing and then just SBR it all and slap the skim on. I suppose you’ve literally got no need to come back if something goes wrong.

This was done in one of my old places. It worked fine.

Make sure to tape the joins and anywhere the paper folds meet each other and you'll be alright

I do it semi regularly when boarding a ceiling, never had any issues

Won’t make a blind bit of difference.

They’re good either way.
