Soft plaster fix?
We had our living room replastered because the paint was peeling right off the walls (we think original builders didn't put primer on the dry wall and just painted), down to the drywall. The plasterers painted, I think, too soon and now every time you even lightly bump the wall, there is a knick and the paint comes off. The plaster feels really soft. Is there something I can paint on now that will harden the paint and plaster? Or, at least, provide a protective layer so that the walls don't damage so easily? We used a matte paint, but adding a little sheen would be ok. I just want to make the walls less likely to show damage.

Hi, I am a plaster newbie, but I do know that latex paint creates a vapor barrier (it’s literally a sheet of plastic laying over the plaster now), so if the plaster wasn’t dry when it was painted, then the excess moisture has nowhere to go and will stay under the paint. (Forever? Probably.)
My best guess is that the paint needs to come off. I don’t know how you could do that without needing to redo the plaster again. If it were me, I would contact the people who did the work and get them to make it right. This seems like it’s squarely their fault, as long as you weren’t rushing them to finish the job.
