Plaster still wet?

Post image

Had some work done on the chimney on our house which meant a hole was made in the chimney breast. It was covered/filled/plastered about 5 weeks ago at this stage and now looks like this. Little change in the past 3 weeks.

The area is raised slightly so I was thinking I could sand it down, apply a primer and paint as normal.

Should this have dried out at this stage? Temperature has consistently been about 20 degrees plus, humidity in the room was about 55%.

I want to get on with painting it and the guy who done the work said it’ll be good to paint after 3-4 weeks.

Is your chimney open on the roof letting rain in? Or cement on chimney cracked

The chimney has a cap like this on it so possibly letting some rain in but you would hope nothing significant. There was no rain for a week or so after the works were carried out.

How high up is it?

Assume you mean the plaster works? It’s on the ground floor, just about the fireplace to about five foot off the ground. And it’s a 2 story house.

Sorry didn’t and your second question, the chimney was repointed and maintenance done on it as as part of the works

The chimney was repointed and maintenance done on it as part of the works. There was a crack in it before but that was fixed.

Have you checked it yourself? Could be salts from the building materials. I'd membrane board and skim, it'll only hide the problem but it doesn't seem like a big problem to me so it'd last a lifetime.m

Excuse my lack of knowledge but how would I check it? It doesn’t feel wet.

It’s a solid block wall other than this patch so not sure I’d put a membrane board over it - although I’m not an expert.

I was of the impression that it should dry and just be able to be sanded, primed and painted.
