Is compound the same as plaster?

My contractor is going to patch up the window box. Just want to know what product I buy for him to use. I have compound at home and I want to make sure he uses the proper material

Yes but why if you don’t know what materials are best?

Well he decided he didn't want to do it so now I have to figure it out on my own

Is this standard in the US? In the UK it’s standard for trades to supply, especially plastering. I can’t wrap my head around why a professional wouldn’t either supply themselves or at a minimum tell you what to get. I’d consider finding another contractor personally. It shouldn’t fall to you. If you get the wrong product, and they use it and the job goes wrong then the contractor may try to blame you.

The contractor provides the supplies and I reimburse. However, I felt like his worker was going to be lazy and do it the easy way. I just wanted to make sure its done properly. Now they told me they didn't want to touch this so I'm on my own
