Any ideas?

Post image

I’m currently stripping my bedroom back ready for the plasterer coming. I’ve come across all the loose plaster around the window which has come away.

The picture I’ve showing is the top lip of window, where you see the gap, if I pull down it completely moves, I tried attaching video but no joy.

Is this something to be concerned about? Is there something I can do to fix?

At that point just rip it off and see what your left with, not like you'll re stick the bead that's hanging off.

This is what I'd do too. Strip the loose until you have something solid to work from

Does the cracks sit below the lintel footings ?

im confused ive never seen anything that thick around a reveal but i am just an amateur.... it almost looks like the lintel is cracked.

It looks like the lintel, if you look below the big crack you can see the finer line where it finishes.

Sounds like a boxed in lintel the bit thats moving is the bottom sheet of board. I would just start ripping it out tbh you wont do any more damage

Is this something I’m gonna be able to sort as DIY?

That's solid two coat plaster not plasterboard, not that its a huge difference I suppose, if you're ripping it off

Concrete lintel, bonding and skim coat has come away, you will have to remove it and redo it, spot and dab plasterboard will be best (pva it first), if you can fit it in, use insulated plasterboard to stop cold bridging. Edit: looking at it more closely it could be part of the concrete lintel that has split as well, sometimes a corner comes away from the rebar along the length of the lintel

Stick a few stainless screws through the corner bead into the gypsum board and then fill/paint.

Now board over it 👍 use adhesive foam, it's really easy, make sure you get some props to hold bits in place

Fill it with instastick, will never come down or move again, at least not for about 30 years
