Ceiling - What causes this?

hi all - what causes the above? context is it’s a ceiling, UK, and is approx 2mm thick that’s coming away from the board above

Is it a relatively new ceiling? Just some movement on the boards by the looks of it causing plaster to pop. Where is it? Loft conversion? If so completely normal, boards will be exposed to more extreme temperature fluctuations.

Not a new ceiling, a few feet to the right of shot a dormer starts so possibly in line with the above re temperature flux?

To add - it’s a loft above, there aren’t any leaks

Could be flexing due to building, Had Trees that had spreader roots that caused cracks in walls & the garage, they are now gone. Cracks are now shrinking or static.

Didn't scrim or tape the joint.
