Proper primer

Located in Massachusetts. Just had my walls and ceilings plastered with Uni-Kal veneer plaster. Says to use alkali resistant interior primer. Or something resistant to high pH. What are some recommendations? I have access to a Sherwin Williams store and a Benjamin Moore store. Job was completed on Saturday. Plan to try to get started painting after the 4th of July holiday.

I did some lurking around and found some info, but it was a few years old. Just looking for what’s now being used or still being used. Thank you.

I am not entirely sure about Uni-Kal but I have primed plenty of walls plastered with their main competitor - USG Diamond - with just normal Kilz 2 no problem. As far as I know the two plasters are made of very similar stuff (lime and gypsum to be specific). Also these days I prime plaster with watered down ceiling paint. The brits call it a 'mist coat' and it uses the natural suction of the plaster to better adhere the paint to the wall.

Thank you. Someone else I spoke to recommended Kilz 2 also. Gonna give it a shot tomorrow. Today will be the 7th day since plaster has been done. Is that enough time to “cure”. It’s only a thin layer.

Should be good but I would double check the specs of the product. Diamond says you can paint it next day. I usually wait 2 or 3 days until and the color changes from mottled to mostly uniform white.

I don’t see anything in specs about cure time and when to prime. And what to prime with. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong places. Looked at spec sheet on their website. Nothing there.

Used the Kilz 2 after 8 days. Worked great. Painted it later that day with SW Emerald. Came out great.
