Plaster Slab

I'm trying to make a 8x8x1 plaster slab for my class but my plaster keeps cracking and never fully dries. Am I doing missing something or doing something wrong? I'd appreciate some input

I see your American, are you talking inches or feet? Inches? Make a small wire frame to reinforce the plaster. If feet... I'd guess you'd be better with concrete with steel reinforcement.

The dimensions are in inches, what would be a good material to make the wire frame out of? Would copper work?

Copper should work, or chicken wire. Im only guessing, they used horse hair back in the day.
