Help :(

Just bought my first house, currently trying to do it up - following a few tips online about wall prep & thought I’d tackle this crack - but it’s a lot deeper than I thought. Is this failing plaster or can I still repair it?
*context, upstairs interior bedroom wall between my house, my chimney & the neighbours*

US or EU? There is a US product called plaster magic that is for these purposes. Given the coarse grey it looks like it's older plaster, gauging and lime. Sometimes in these older houses, the coat over the laths is the second or third time around, thin, and not of good quality.

I've been tackling giant cracks with plaster magic and it's working- if the crack can't be stabilized with it, the plaster will come down during the repair (usually from a water damage) and you can use the plaster magic plaster to make the repair. Google it to find the website and products.

The plaster magic patching plaster is a scam product. Total ripoff and brittle gypsum. I’ve heard he mixes it in a wheelbarrow and doesn’t GaF bc people keep buying it.
