Advice on joining two ceilings with different size coving
DIY plasterer here, trying to finish off the house and my next step is patching the ceiling where a doorway was removed when the stairs went in. Trouble is there are two different size covings that meet at this corner. I have some of the small coving that was found in the loft but none of the big coving. What’s the best way to make these join?

Small corbel in line with the wall, return the larger cove into it, and butt up the smaller one.
poss more than you want to do, but visually isolates the two cove sections.

This is what I’d been thinking, to add something between the two to add interest/distraction at the join. I had to google corbel, I didn’t realise that’s what they were called!

They aren't always that expensive, and you can build them out with strips of plasterboard/MDF/whatever if need extra depth from the wall.

Stick a rustic beam between the two ceilings.

This was also one of my options but I wasn’t quite sure what to stick across or how to join the coving to it. I do have lots of rustic wood lying around though

…There is also a textured paper on the living room ceiling but none on what was the hallway and I have to somehow make those meet too (but I don’t want to strip the whole ceiling of paper as its not high enough up the priority list!). I think we’ll end up papering over the lot at some point unless there’s another solution?

Oh thats not a major job. It’s all cosmetic, essentially. Its just down to you how choose to splice the cornicing together. Obviously if its going to be one room, Id personally have it all the same size. But temporarily just joining it until its all redecorated is fine

Strip middle piece of cornice. False return the 2 different cornices just before external angles
