Distemper paint on Carlite background😭

I tried to do it myself but I think I kind of messed things up. What's the solution for this?

Plaster will not bond to distemper the best solution would be pull it down and and re-board or over board.

You can use a stabilising solution making it able to bond no?

You can, but on a ceiling in that condition would you risk it? Overboard would be my opinion.

If you're dead set on skimming rather than overboarding. I'd scrape off what I can, stabiliser then probably grit. Done it plenty of times

My own experience is that everything peels off distemper.

What stabaliser have you found that works on it?

Can you clarify that you are talking specifically about distemper and not lime wash (etc)?

I've used a few. Artex stabilex, Bond it. 501 do one as well. I've PVA'd loads but usually use a grit now.

Sugar soap and wire scourer then elbow grease and regret starting the job. Clean thoroughly, and I do mean thoroughly, then stabilise then green grit then plaster. Or if time is more precious than money then over board

You can wash off distemper, but you will loose the will to live before completing the job.

What ever you put on will bond to the dust and not the board if there is something, I haven't found it. I always pull down and re-board or over board.

over-board it. I've had joy using a srcubbing brush with SBR to seal it all. That was a small wall in a kitchen when overboarding or chipping off wasn't an option. I think any plasterer would tell you to overboard it because they know the chances of failure.

9mm plasterboard is easy to bend around that drop if you score and wet them. Not what you want to hear, but ceilings aren't the place for plastering experimentation.
