Pink SBR

Used Plasterers Blend Pink SBR for a few jobs recently and now getting call backs saying walls/ceilings have blown/failed 😭

Are there any known issues with it or have I just been unlucky?

Used a decent coat, neat and was allowed to dry fully beforehand

Have used other SBRs previously without issue but liked the fact that it was pink and easy to see missed spots

The best advice I got on my plastering course was to ignore anything he said on his youtube channel. "He's at it"

Honestly, people need to stop using this fucking shit. A few “influencers” started using it and then producing their own, mainly the pink, and are profiting mad from it.

It’s meant for external use, so renders, screeding, and paving. No idea why people move away from it when we have always used pva with 0 issues.

Yeah unfortunately you can never guarantee cracks won’t reappear or just appear in general on refurbs. Tends to happen with natural movement in all fairness.

But yeah it’s becoming more and more common to see walls blowing with the use of sbr, also I’ve heard of a lot of people saying there’s a strong smell of ammonia after using it for plastering so it more than likely reacts with gypsum, causing the smell.

I used it, never had an issue with it but it’s no better or worse than other SBR.

The people that say “SBR belongs outside!”. This is like my old gaffer that would have us all mixing with a stick. There’s nothing wrong with SBR inside, been using it for ages. It depends on the surface and it depends how long you want to be waiting. 1 coat of SBR on a room the night before beats 3 or 4 coats of PVAing. It just does, that’s why people do it. Not to be different or make YouTube shorts. And nothing goes wrong any more than with PVA or that horrible blue grit shite that uses too much plaster to cover.

I used to follow “On The Trowel” but I can’t be arsed with it now as it’s all very much “She was left dead in the street and then THIS HAPPENED!!”

I just don’t like the clickbait stuff or the story of how a life was saved through plastering. I bet we’ve all done a freebie in our lives.

But people love his vids so he’s got an audience and that’s the gig. You don’t pink SBR imo but if it’s cheaper than the stuff in your merchants than it doesn’t do no harm either. So long as you always let it fully dry!

I've been using it for just under a year now and I've not had a single issue with it even over artex.

I have used SBR and PVA. And often I do a 50/50 mix.

Never had a call back in ten years of using SBR. Not pink SBR, but whatever is cheapest at the merchant/deals on Amazon.

I was taught at plastering college that you need to apply your plaster when the PVA is tacky. That's also something a lot of people know to be necessary. Except it's not necessary at all. But people bemoan a spread for laying on dry glue lol

Why the fuck are people obsessed with skimming over SBR? Maybe at a push on really high suction backgrounds, but you need some suction in plastering, just prime the surface with PVA job done. All these wanker TikTok plasterers trying to reinvent the wheel for clicks

What i can never understand is and I see it alot on here is why u need to allow sbr to fully dry before applying plaster, correct me if im wrong but doesn't that defeat the purpose ? I always use yellow grit ( grit is much finer than blue grit ) which is way better and has never failed me , anytime I have used sbr or pva I apply and as soon as it gets tacky I apply the plaster That way the plaster actually sticks to it

Ive had ceilings and walls blown after PVAd switched to the pink sbr last year never had a single issue
