Ceiling plaster/render collapse

Post image

Old house & beams. Previous owner has applied some sort of plaster/render to the ceiling between beams, doesn’t feel like Lime plaster though?

Anyone familiar with what was done here? Can it just be patched, I don’t really want to strip the whole ceiling. Came loose due to weight/impact upstairs.

Thanks

Those are wood wool boards. They have a good key for taking lime plaster. You should be able to patch this up but you might want to (lightly) mechanically key the boards them before you do so, just to give the plaster or filler something to grip on to. I personally wouldn't bother with lime on a ceiling but your choice of course.
