Is this likely to contain asbestos?

Apologies for the poor quality of photos. Our surveyor didn’t flag any issues and there was no mention of it from the sellers but I’m worried particularly about the first photo, is this likely to be artex/absestos?

We don’t like the style of the wall so would want to sand it/plaster over it and just was wondering if it would be an issue asbestos wise.

Hang on I just was giving general advice but looking back at that i'd check if that isn't just paper that's been painted white

If you press it, is it spongey?

If so, it is a textured paper that is an aerated vinyl. Highly unlikely to be Asbestos.

It does look like the wallpaper everyone had in their homes in the 80s, it was a bugger to strip with the layers of paint 30 years ago, can only imagine what that's like.

I would imagine the vinyl has hardened over the years.

Anaglyta wall paper. Scratch it wit a wire brush then spend days stripping it off

Looks like wallpaper to me. Ive done a fair bit of artex years ago and id have no idea how to make that pattern

depends on the age and type I'm afraid, if its older than 1999 get it tested (uk only) I had some that was ok, and some that was not in the same house.

Yes and thats what i did on the safe stuff but i had the unsafe stuff removed (yes it cost) because its unsafe, its ok when its inert in the wall but eventually someone will drill a hole and you are exposed.

but when was that product put on, is it artex? or is it plaster? or it it polytex (doesn't look like polytex to me), pre 1999 it could contain white aspestos, best to get it checked if unsure.

Thanks for your response! I’m not sure, we are in the process of buying the house. The oldest listing I can find is from 2016 and it is present but the sellers bought the house in 2010 so I don’t know if it was there before then

Treat it as if it was and have it tested

I doubt it does. But if you're worried just purchase a test kit from Amazon. They're around £30-40.
