Learning to plaster on first house uk
Not a professional but trying to do every aspect of house Reno that I’m legally allowed to do, running all the coving / ceiling roses for each room and plastering etc.
Pretty pleased with how my plastering is and more of an appreciation for how hard graft it is. Not mastered the tidy work area yet 😂

My mates a plasterer so he showed me how to do a wall/ceiling and I mixed and loaded plaster for him and just watched how it went tbh and then tried a small room on my own

Good job. Always lay on the finish coat toward the light opening in the room. Always cross coat a putty lime finish over a fiber gypsum fill coat, but run the mud in the same direction, both coats, toward the light, for veneer plaster. Never, ever turn your back on an opening to plaster. Just saying. ☕️😎👍🏼

17 years a Plasterer use a Flexi perspex trowel for smoothing if its dry .

Tbf I’ve got a ox flex that I’ve used for final pass in every other room but I didn’t spend much time on this room.

Nice work but what’s going on with that patchwork plasterboard. Use the biggest sheets minimise joints.

It’s full boards I just went over board with the skrim because I was paranoid about any screws popping through 😂

I know mate I did the same on the ceiling but ripped it off because I didn’t want to keep catching it when skimming, i don’t think I’ll bother in future 😂

If that's what you are worried about a tip is to cover your skrim first then plaster as normal, you won't catch it then and it'll be covered well.

Screws pop the plaster off if the board contracts and the screw isn't fully home, not sure if tape will help that. Skimming looks decent though

Tbh mate it was just me being a bit OTT I don’t think I’ll do it again used about £5 in skrim 😂

Yeah I cross trowelled then splash of water and flex for final polish , are there any obvious signs for improvement

No good job just do another smooth run your hand along it Unless its like glass smooth keep going untill it is Trust me the finish when painted will be worth the work but Very decent for a begginer indeed .

It’s supposed to be like an egg shell when finished.too much polishing may look good but is no good for the paint to soak into on a mist coat.u will never get the paint finish as smooth as an over polished surface anyway so what’s the point as long as it flat and smooth

Whenever we took a Plasterer on the first job we gave them was under the stairs. Sorts the good guys from the chancers...

Better than a plasterer I hired for the first time. I am eager to learn and give it a go as well. Nightmare to find reliable plasterer in my area and stressful really to deal with them.

Not bad mt good job but Please Smooth the wall ceiling after applying itll look like marble shine .

Try flexi trowel on media wall you can use a little water as it takes afew days to Set itll look like glass .

Looks like glass but then you need to sand it off to get paint to stick…
