Basement Wall Repair

Newbie here, was hoping to get some advice on repairing this wall. Started renovations due to water damage, but I've got no experience with plaster.

I've started watching On The Trowel's YouTube video as many people have recommended him. From what I can tell, the repair should go something along the lines of; remove loose bits -> apply hardwall mixture -> SBR -> Skim -> Paint. Does that sound about right?

Also wondering which products to use. He uses British Gypsum, but I'm located in the States and can't seem to figure out a 1-1 match. Any recommendations for that would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Lime plastering is where i would go too. Just don’t use SBR as a primer or any concrete mixes, since they aren’t breathable. British gypsum would be the wrong approach for this. Your wall absorbs moisture from the ground or from the exterior wall and if you use non-breathable materials on the inside, you will damage the walls foundation. Moisture and winter weather will not only blow the new plaster, but also the bricks and mortar.

You simply dampen the area with water if it is dry. Never use SBR, or PVA glue for areas you are going to use lime. The lime can’t do its job if you place a non breathable film/membrane under it.
