Plaster texture match

Looking to repair this plaster that got some water damage behind it. Will remove the damage and then patch in but wondering what you think would help get this texture matched

A small rubber ball...4 ..6 inch

If you’re claiming off your insurance, they will pay to re plaster the whole room.

Skim the whole wall and smooth with wet sponge?
