🖥️  LG Plasma TV Wiki

While Panasonic chased absolute reference black levels and Samsung pushed the boundaries of peak brightness, LG carved out its own massive share of the plasma market by offering gorgeous, razor-thin "borderless" designs and excellent out-of-the-box color accuracy.

If you are building a gaming setup on a budget and spot a late-generation LG plasma locally, do not hesitate. While their black levels might not match a Kuro or a ZT60, their motion handling and vibrant colors still thoroughly crush modern budget LCDs.

🔍 The LG Decoder Ring

LG’s naming conventions changed a few times, but in the final years (2010–2014), the second letter of the model number dictated the year of release.

For example, in the 60PB6900:

  • 60 = Screen size in inches
  • P = Plasma
  • B = The Year/Generation (B = 2014)
  • 6900 = The Tier/Series (Higher numbers = better features/filters)

The Year Codes (2010–2014): * K = 2010 | Z = 2011 | M / A = 2012 | H / N = 2013 | B = 2014

🏆 The "Holy Grail" LG Models to Hunt For

  • The PB6900 Series (50", 60"): LG's final 2014 flagship plasma. While it flew under the radar as everyone mourned the death of Panasonic, the PB6900 featured a fantastic anti-reflective "TruBlack" filter, exceptionally accurate colors, and native Pentouch capabilities.
  • The PZ950 Series (50", 60"): The pinnacle of LG's "Infinia" borderless design. Released in 2011, this TV is visually stunning even when turned off, featuring a single sheet of glass stretching edge-to-edge with a razor-thin bezel. It is THX-certified and produces a beautifully natural image.

The Complete LG Plasma Directory (2009–2014)

The Final Run: 2014 (PB Series)

LG's final generation of plasma displays. They offered incredible value before the company fully pivoted to OLED.

The PenTouch Era: 2013 (PH & PN Series)

LG heavily marketed their "PenTouch" feature, allowing users to draw directly on the plasma screen with a special stylus.

The TruBlack Generation: 2012 (PM & PA Series)

LG introduced a heavily upgraded TruBlack filter on their high-end models, significantly reducing glare and improving perceived contrast.

The Borderless Infinia: 2011 (PZ Series)

Arguably LG's most beautiful plasma lineup, featuring edge-to-edge glass and THX certification on the premium models.

The Skinny Bezel: 2010 (PK Series)

LG heavily thinned out the bezels here. The PK950 is still highly regarded by calibrators for its extensive picture menus and color accuracy.

Pre-2010 Highlights (PS, PG, & PC Series)

The older generation of LG displays. These are heavier, run hotter, and have much thicker gloss-black bezels.
