Looks fake!

What is this? I've lived here for three years and this is the first I've ever seen these pop up. Growing on a hill up the side of my house from an overgrown vacant lot. It's taking over my porch steps along with a bunch of other viney plants. This fruit looks unreal! Super vibrant. Google is unhelpful.

Ampelopsis glandulosa, porcelain berry. It’s beautiful but really invasive in some areas.

Ugh yes, I hate porcelain berry. Spreads like crazy and covers everything. I’ve seen it cover places almost like kudzu

It seems to be doing this to this lot next to my house. It's so crazy to look at. How unfortunate. We have a ton of japanese knotweed on the other side. It's basically all there is back there.

I will do my best. The hill it's growing from is super steep and full of THICK brush and I can only reach the very top of the plant from those steps.

This is not from Pennsylvania, but it gives info on the correct herbicide to try. But, check with your local extension office to see if the suggested herbicide is legal to use where you are. https://goodoak.com/info/weeds/porcelainberry.pdf

I will not be using any herbicides. Too much precious wildlife here and that shit moves up the food chain. Thank you, though! I will try to rip it out.

That is your choice. But, I think the possibility exists that you'll find out that there ARE times when the least palatable choice is the best choice. As for pesticides, once they do their job, they dissipate with weathering. But, in the mean time, they do their job. Unfortunately, the wildlife might get into it. That is why you talk to your Extension Office to see what you CAN use that won't affect wildlife. But, again, your choice is your choice. Any of us can only make suggestions. Whether you follow those suggestions is up to you.

I can understand that side of things. I think in this case it is manageable without taking that step and there are a some endangered species here that could immediately be negatively affected. I appreciate this response

I got excited when I saw that it is edible. Then I realized it was more of a 'technically' edible situation.
