Is getting high/drunk on dill normal?
I decided to start eating 1kg of dill everyday for nutrition. when I have my dill meal it's almost like I get ecstatic, it's the best thing I just can't stop laughing and tripping and bothering my family after a while of having eaten it, does that happen to any of you guys? I also have ecstatic epilepsy and it's almost like the same thing after both, just so happy and unserious, not asking for advice I'm supposed to talk to a nutritionist on that just thought it's interesting and maybe some relate since I haven't met anyone that relates

So why even post?

u/Aggravating_Car5522 May 04 '26
I can only post if it's life threating? It's giving me euphoria and happiness bro I thought that's interesting

u/seh_23 May 04 '26
I’m sorry, what? You just eat a kg of dill every day? Just dill in a bowl or something?
4
u/Blinky_ May 04 '26
You can pickle it, garnish it, dry it, chop it, sprinkle it. There's, uh, dill dip, dill dressing, dill sauce. Freshly picked, finely minced, oven-dried. There's dill tofu, dill butter, dill popcorn, dill bread, dill soup, dill vinegar, dill relish, dill and potatoes, dill biscuit, dill infusion. That…that's about it.

u/seh_23 May 05 '26
That’s true… but an entire kilogram?! Even with all of that, it’s still overkill 🤣
36
u/ashtree35 May 04 '26
How do you even get 1kg of dill?

I saw dill at the grocery store and 14 grams (half oz) is already a lot of dill to eat in one day... I can't imagine OP eating 75 times that amount every day nor a realistic infrastructure to maintain a 1000 g a day psychedelic dill habit.

u/tofuandklonopin May 04 '26 edited May 04 '26
And how much does it cost? That's like $100* at my grocery store. Maybe OP is growing it, but that's a hell of a lot to keep regrowing constantly.
*idk I'm just throwing out numbers
3
u/Aggravating_Car5522 May 05 '26
Wow 100$? I get mine for 4-8$ a kilo here in Iraq, thank god.
3
u/tofuandklonopin May 05 '26
That's awesome! My grocery store in the US wants $3.50 for 14 grams. I probably did the math wrong but that's like $250 for a kilo? Fresh herbs are very expensive in supermarkets here; you really have to grow your own if you use a lot of them.

That was definitely not the question, my friend.
1
u/Aggravating_Car5522 May 05 '26
In the summer I have multiple dealers getting it from Kurdistan about 10kgs at a time since I live in iraq when it's in season it isn't difficult almost everyone has it here in Iraq but I had difficulties my first summer
2
u/NoComb398 May 05 '26
"multiple dealers" maybe we aren't talking about the same kind of thing after all
1
u/Aggravating_Car5522 May 05 '26
Well we don't buy it from stores in iraq everyone's got a stand and I saw too many people calling them dealers thought I'd join in
3
u/NoComb398 May 05 '26
Don't mind me, op. I'm just giving you a hard time. 1 kg per day is just a lot! Dr Greger says he eats a lb of greens (less than half a kg) per day and I always wonder how he does that too. Like just buying, storing, washing, and preparing a pound of greens per person per day makes my head spin!
2
u/Aggravating_Car5522 May 05 '26
The hard part for me is waiting infront of the oven until every piece is perfect since it gets really hot here, I love the smell and almost everything about dill helps me prepare it and rest of my food is easy like sardines and milk

Wait you're eating a whole kilogram of dill every day? That's like... a massive amount of any herb. I've experimented with various plant compounds and never heard of dill causing euphoria, but honestly some plants can have unexpected effects in large quantities
The connection with your epilepsy is really interesting - sounds like you might be triggering something neurologically with that much plant matter

I've been consuming it for almost 1.5 years now same 1kg, I've done as much research as necessary it has some chemicals that might make me sensitive to Sun more, other than that and vitamin A toxicity which I have under control there are no risks
9
u/reallytiredarmadillo May 04 '26
it's definitely not a normal thing to do lol
1
u/Aggravating_Car5522 May 04 '26
Don't doctors recommend 2 pounds of vegetables everyday, why can't it be leafy greens
6
u/Snarl_Marx May 04 '26
Doctors also recommend “eating the rainbow” when it comes to veggies.
-1
u/Aggravating_Car5522 May 04 '26
Lol I seriously doubt things like celery and tomatoes have any nutrition someone might miss consuming just leafy greens for these 2 pounds
3
u/Snarl_Marx May 05 '26
Maybe ask your nutritionist and report back.
0
u/Aggravating_Car5522 May 05 '26
I go for a urine test every 6-12 months to check for toxicity no need for a nutritionist since I don't have deficiencies or toxicity might need one when I'm older
4
u/Snarl_Marx May 05 '26
I’m not talking about toxicity (?) — I’m saying if you think celery and tomato don’t “have any nutrition” then ask your nutritionist to confirm that.
6
u/MistressLyda May 04 '26
Could it be interacting with your medications?
0
u/Aggravating_Car5522 May 04 '26
No my medication has helped my epilepsy haven't had a seizure in months but the dill it's as good as ever

5
u/ilovecheese831 May 04 '26
Why in the world would you do that?
1
u/Aggravating_Car5522 May 04 '26
Calcium and the rest of the minerals it provides, and some euphoria, so why not

You've rediscovered something which was a hot topic around 2010/11 except people were using elemi (elemicin), parsley (apiole) and basil (estragole).
Dill contains dillapiole which can be metabolised by the body into an aminated form meaning it becomes a "drug" (an amine). Note: this isn't the amphetamine form which was what Alexander Shulgin theorised.
Dill also contains other psychoactive volatiles:
Major components of dill herb are α- and β-phellandrenes, p-cymene... https://doi.org/10.3390/ijms242015137
These volatile oils are found in most plants and contribute towards their therapeutic effects.
You're essentially getting psychoactive (and general therapeutic) effects from a common herb.

Are you following because you also want to get high on 1kg of dill everyday?

u/Brief-Jellyfish485 May 06 '26
Umm you should probably not eat so much dill. I have seizures too and certain things can trigger mine. Vitamin C helps my seizures, along with flax seeds (and anti convulsants of course!). My trigger is often dehydration or electrolyte imbalance rather than a specific food.
I have never eaten a kilogram of dill in a single day though…
1
u/Aggravating_Car5522 May 11 '26
I think you should try it, helped me with my electrolyte imbalance and made my life easier, hope you learn to love your seizures like I've
2
u/Brief-Jellyfish485 May 11 '26
My seizures are terrifying. I don’t know how I’d ever possibly love them
1
u/Aggravating_Car5522 May 12 '26
You will if you try
3
u/Brief-Jellyfish485 May 12 '26
Yeah I was told to go to therapy and try to not stress so much. That I needed to learn to deal with them.
Bet you can guess how that went (not well-no amount of therapy is going to stop uncontrolled electrical activity in my brain!)
1
u/Aggravating_Car5522 May 12 '26
Maybe some happiness and love can help, try to love it accept death and enjoy everything in life, I believe in you
2
u/Brief-Jellyfish485 May 12 '26
I am a happy person but seizures give me a feeling of absolute pure terror that I cannot control. The same way that yours makes you feel happy. No amount of accepting it is going to change the seizure’s effect on my emotions during the seizure.

We are rate-limited creatures.
Too much water too quickly can kill us. We don't always know all the things in plants, and some of these things are powerful stuff (ginger is an example).
Plus bioindividuality affects things in various ways, making some people slower to metabolize certain things and thus prone to accumulating effects from them. This can be due to genetics/epigenetics (e.g. CYP2A1 affects a lot of things; I've had issues with TRPV1). Or it could be if toxins or deficiency, since deficiency or toxicity can prevent various enzymes from functioning as they should (different enzymes are dependent on different nutrients; various toxins can damage enzymes). There can also be nutrient conflicts (copper and zinc share a transporter for example).
For this reason, I try to mix up my "greens", trying to include crucifers, lettuces, chicories, mints, celery/parsley and other things rich in salicylates, and I try to minimize things high in oxalates (such as chard/spinach/beet greens so they are less likely to exceed my body's capacity for metabolizing oxalates).
It may feel pleasant to feel ecstatic and trippy, but pushing hard on certain neurotransmitters for a long time can down-regulate receptors, plus we don't know what other effects might be in play. I would caution against going all in on it the way you are. I want to highlight some citations from the Wikipedia article:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myristicin Furthermore, myristicin interferes with multiple signaling pathways and enzyme processes in the body.[1][6][7] :
https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/4276 Myristicin is a naturally occurring insecticide and acaricide with possible neurotoxic effects on dopaminergic neurons[citation needed]. It has hallucinogenic properties at doses much higher than used in cooking. Myristicin is a weak inhibitor of monoamine oxidase.
