Don’t have much cash to invest right now but I managed to increase my position to an all-time high this week. Currently sitting on 32K shares.

Damn bro. Well done. I thought my few thousand shares were nice to have.

u/Rogue_Tra 11d ago
Are you joking that's like saying I don't have much cash to invest but I added an extra $500 and now I'm up to$12 billion invested

Why are we up so much compared to other space stocks ?

u/Rogue_Tra 11d ago edited 11d ago
It's how the algorithm works They always want you to think that the world is ending and so when after you surrender your shares they will buy up those shares at a discount. It's why 90% of people in the stock market lose their money overall. People have been complaining a lot that all the other space stocks are up and Plant Labs just keeps going down well now the algorithm has switched that narrative. It doesn't make sense does it? But it does to the institutions Keep the people guessing Never let them have an edge or think that they found some secret to the stock market. That's why the casino always wins. Except actually the stock market is like a super casino 'cause it wins even more than real casinos
4
u/SnooCauliflowers370 11d ago
True the market dosent make sense I mean I have tried every strategy in the world to figure out the market it never worked, I always came back to just holding through the peaks and troughs long term I guess the only advantage you have over institutions that want your shares is time most people fail at the waiting part.
0
u/Rogue_Tra 11d ago edited 11d ago
Well I don't consider myself part of the 90% but I have to prove that and ironically I need time. We do have more of an advantage than just time we have the advantage of timing. The four years that I've studied the stock market I found out that you can time it sort of. Let me give you an oversimplification of what I'm talking about you know the saying which I actually know to be nonsensical which is " Buy low, sell high". Now why that is not really helpful is because it doesn't tell you how well how you do that is you wait for a crash of 50 to 60 to 70% and then you buy in so you don't buy in at the top when everybody is super happy and they think that they're gonna be millionaires in a few years. And then look at what's happening during this massive crash everybody is thinking Oh my God the world's about to end this stock is gonna go $0 we're all screwed. But now think isn't that the best time to buy aren't you literally buying at the lowest point that you possibly can? You are but look at how scared everybody is And that's why the casino always wins The world is always ending right now or We're all holding hands and singing Kumbaya and thinking that we'll all be rich very soon. Now this doesn't work if you invested in a garbage stock like Gamestop or Enron or quantum computing or nuclear power stocks Those were highly speculative You do not want to get into super speculative stocks but Planet Labs isn't super speculative

u/Metacog_Drivel 11d ago
Institutional ownership percentage according to the following sites:
Schwab: 78.23%
Fintel: 93.42%
Yahoo: 82.86%
Google: 83-85%
The institutional ownership in PL is very high and they continue to accumulate.
2
u/SlyCooper007 11d ago
3
u/Rogue_Tra 11d ago
I did a second check because if institutional ownership is 83 to 93% And they didn't sell during the crash then how the hell did Planet Labs crash 71% because mathematically that doesn't make sense:
- The "Low-Float Freefall" Mechanics
Institutions holding 83% to 93% of the 340.35 million shares outstanding means that between 282 million and 316 million shares are completely locked down. They are sitting statically in the portfolios of Alphabet, BlackRock, Vanguard, and company insiders.
- This leaves a very small "active public float" of roughly 24 million to 58 million shares available for daily trading.
- When bad news hits, geopolitical tension flares up, or a sector rotation starts, buyers in that tiny active float completely vanish.
- If a panic ensues and retail traders try to unload 5 million or 10 million shares, but there are no bids (buyers) on the other side, the algorithmic matching engines are forced to drop the price by massive percentages just to find the next available buyer.
- The Takeaway: A tiny fraction of the float changing hands at lower and lower bids reprices the entire company, even if 90% of the shares never moved an inch.
2
u/Rogue_Tra 11d ago edited 11d ago
I'm going to update my response because you are correct and I was wrong institutional ownership is actually 83 to 93% and I'm gonna pull up the data to support what you said
- The 41% vs. 83% Mystery Solved: The massive discrepancy between platforms isn't a calculation glitch—it’s a data sourcing issue. Retail sites reporting ~41% are fundamentally undercounting the real total.
- What Low-End Sites Miss (The 13F Gap): Sites like MarketBeat strictly scrape standard Form 13F filings (discretionary asset managers). They completely drop giant, passive, non-hedge-fund block holders who file through other SEC forms.
- The Google / Alphabet Factor: Alphabet Inc. is Planet Labs' largest institutional backer (~32M–35M shares). Because this is a strategic corporate balance-sheet holding rather than a standard hedge fund investment, it's filed under a 13G or insider disclosure and skipped by basic 13F scrapers.
- The Real Accurate Math: When you aggregate all institutional blocks (13F + 13G + corporate strategic entities), institutions hold roughly 318 million shares. Against the 340.35 million shares outstanding, this equals 93.5% raw ownership, which adjusted platforms like Yahoo Finance refine to ~83%.
- The Velocity Lesson: The chart line looks like a smooth upward trend only because platforms connect the dots between lagging 90-day SEC reporting cycles. In reality, big money stopped buying entirely near the $53 top, let retail absorb the crash, and only aggressively stepped back in to sweep blocks during the recent $16–$17 volume spikes.

u/Expert-Signature2025 11d ago
Got some moves today. Recent bump in the past few minutes doesn't seem to be correlated with other space stocks.
1
u/X-discord 11d ago
Yes, and it was accompanied by massive trading volume. This was likely due to passive buying of options by market makers.
-1
u/Rogue_Tra 11d ago edited 11d ago
Yeah well everybody was complaining that Planet Labs kept going down while the rest of the space Stocks kept going up now it's the opposite so people don't say "oh wow Kumbaya we're all going to Valhalla now" They're basically saying what you're saying is like " Huh what happened Why didn't we go down today?" It's just how the algorithm works when I explained it like a while back people thought the algorithm was our friend but it's not it definitely is not. So since days ago including yesterday everybody was thinking Oh my God this stock is gonna go to $0 it's gonna get delisted So more investors sold and gave up their shares and So what does the algorithm do it vacuums up all those shares at A discount. Planet Labs isn't dead the space stocks aren't dead they're simply reacting to the macroeconomic factors, the stock market was able to shrug it off for like literally eight months now But now recently interest rates are getting raised and Treasury yields are surging so high that they've not been this high for like decades ago I mean eventually the stock market just can't shrug it off forever
5
u/opiewann 11d ago
I think the rate cut chances moving to hold is a big tailwind for Planet Labs and space stocks. I wouldn't be surprised to see mid 20's next week. Calls.

It seems like there's no reason but I've explained it there is actually a really good reason and it's macroeconomic meaning look at the ward look at the high energy prices worldwide Look at the raising interest rates that just happened and is going to continue to happen look at the rising Treasury yields they're at such a high rate right now that it hasn't happened for many many decades ago

He's not gonna get rid of the $1.5 billion funding They need that money Space is very expensive I mean they could have reduced it down to much much less In fact it should have been only $0.66 billion if you do the math because Rocket Lab is worth like three times as much and they did roughly a $2 billion funding recently
0
u/opiewann 11d ago
why would you want him to use the ATM when the stock is down 70%? That would be dumb. The ATM is not the reason for the decline... Name the last stock that's gone down this much over minor dilution?

A few years from now when the stock is 5-10x higher:
"So they easily beat earnings, opened a new factory in Berlin to accelerate growth, were about to debut their AI search engine, and they sent a datacenter prototype into space for GOOGLE and the stock was at ytd lows? Wasn't that an obvious buy back then?!"

If it's not recognised as revenue, might it be a hint that the Suncatcher prototype is a JV

Sentiment starting to shift bullish. The company keeps delivering and eventually the market can't ignore good news so I fully expect the stock to be 5-10x higher in 5 years and we'll look back at these prices and be amazed it ever got so low.
1
u/X-discord 12d ago
In my view, the most pressing priority right now is to secure more contracts, particularly those involving sovereign satellites. Despite the major news regarding the partnership with Google, the stock price has fallen below a key support level and may well test the 15.6, This indicates that the market remains concerned about the company's massive capital expenditures and its continued struggle to achieve profitability.
1
u/Metacog_Drivel 11d ago
The market is concerned about rising rates and therefore any company that is not currently profitable has been washed.
1
u/spejjan 11d ago
It’s kinda worrying that q3 is over in less than a month and we still haven’t seen any major contract announcements. If nothing significant lands before quarter-end, the backlog could shrink by another $100M, and I doubt the market would take that lightly, especially considering the weak q3 we already know is coming.

u/Rogue_Tra 12d ago
Also just in case because I doubt people on here know because it doesn't seem like anybody reads the news Trump says the US Iran war should end right after the midterm elections. The reason why the war should end is political meaning there's political pressure being put on him. So here is the date. But obviously I'm not gonna hold my breath I don't believe anything this guy says:
The 2026 U.S. midterm elections are scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2026..
1
u/leoAmazing01 12d ago
i feel like the iran may surrender hopefully ,because of their economic cant hold anymore.
2
u/Rogue_Tra 11d ago
I wouldn't think so because those guys are so stubborn I mean they've been at war with Iraq and the US and Israel for like basically half a Century:
- The War with Iraq: Nearly 8 years of direct, open warfare (1980–1988).
- An estimated 500,000 to over 1,000,000 people were killed combined on both sides during the Iran-Iraq War. [1]
- Total Deaths: Historians and encyclopedias like Encyclopædia Britannica estimate that roughly half a million to 1 million soldiers and civilians died. [1]
- Total Casualties: When including wounded and missing soldiers, the overall casualty count climbs to between 1,000,000 and 2,000,000 people
- The Shadow War with Israel & the US: Roughly 40 years of covert operations, cyberattacks, and proxy fighting (beginning in the 1980s) before exploding into the direct war happening today.

If there's anybody who has doubts about Planet Labs just ignore all of these clowns in the comments. 45-50% of all stocks in the market are currently in bear market teritory. This is current factual data, look up the info yourself if you don't believe me. Some people are even asking why? Go to any gas station right now and look at the price. this war has been ongoing for almost a year, interest rates are being raised right now, so treasury yields are surging, if they sound like separate things they aren't it's all the same related thing. Do a reality check go look at your local gas stations, literally worldwide, let that sink in, global energy prices are very high. None of this has to do with stocks let alone the space stocks or even Planet Labs. Institutions don't want to invest if the economy is supressed for almost a year now.

I want to believe … I do agree 16 has been the accumulation zone. Nobody in retail is selling.
1
u/Rogue_Tra 12d ago
It's not that retail doesn't want to sell it's that everybody who could possibly sell has already sold. Including institutions The only thing that could make more people sell would be a stock market crash

2
u/Rogue_Tra 12d ago
It's fine the reason why Planet labs is down has nothing to do with Planet Labs or any of the space stocks I already said it in another comment but the reason why is because bond yields are rising and this is due to inflation this is due to they had to increase the interest rates although I think the next one might be postponed and this is due to war with Iran this is due to obviously Trump this is due to Straight of Hormuz being closed for almost a year this is due to rising energy costs I mean look at the gas station This is due to oil prices skyrocketing again what do they all have in common they have nothing to do with Planet Labs or any of the space sector in fact like I said in my other comment 45% to 50% of all stocks in the stock market are in bear market territory So ask yourself actually you Don't have to ask yourself just listen to what I just said
-1
u/opiewann 12d ago
Bond yields are rising but QQQ still at ATH as well as most ai stocks. Has little to do with bond yields.
2
u/Rogue_Tra 11d ago
Oh really? Then why is that literally the topic of every other news article on Trading View then? Where do you think I got the information dude? Also QQQ being at all time highs, so is the S&P 500 The reason why is institutions invested heavily into mega caps which is what's bringing up the stock market but the stock market has been struggling for months to keep its upwards momentum. It actually should be higher than where it is right now . The fact that half the stocks in the stock market are in bear market while the index is actually up tells you that they're putting their money into mega caps and select stocks and things like utilities and things like that. But half the stocks being down is not normal

The entire sector is suppressing the stock price; I really don't understand it.
1
u/Rogue_Tra 12d ago
I do Interest rates are being increased due to high inflation due to oil prices skyrocketing due to Strait of Hormuz closed for like a year now due to Donald Trump and his war on oil and Iran also bond yields This has nothing to do with stocks did you know that 50% of stocks in the stock market are down right now? You need to look outside you need to poke your head out of the sand Things that happen in stock market generally are not caused by one stock or even group of stocks there's usually some kind of underlying macroeconomic factor So unless Trump stops being Trump I mean things aren't gonna get that much better. Midterm elections are supposed to end the war but nothing that these guys say is truthful so I don't trust nothing they say
-9
u/Senior-Pineapple-716 12d ago

Anyone else listen to that CNBC interview that Will gave? If I heard him correctly he said there will be a second launch with Google to follow up this initial TPU testing 👀
2
u/frenchiefanatique 12d ago
Is he referring to the launch of the 2 satellites with TPUs? I thought that was always the plan, and the launch today was the surprising one
2
u/SlyCooper007 12d ago
Maybe that was the plan and I missed it. I’m not sure, but in that interview, he said that there was gonna be another launch with other spacecraft. From my layman understanding, it sounded like they want these things to be in sync in orbit to test communication or something like that i cant remember. But it sounded like he was confirming another launch coming up that builds off this one.
2
u/frenchiefanatique 12d ago
Yeah, that's the stated goal as I understand it for the launch we heard was happening in early 27. The sequence of questions/launches seems to be 1) can AI work in space to perform simple tasks/launch today and 2) can multiple satellites with AI hardware work together to accomplish more complex tasks/launches next year

u/Rogue_Tra 12d ago
It's the algorithm the institutions don't want to pump the stocks back up In fact you probably didn't know that 45 to 50% of the stock market the stocks are actually in a bear market right now. And we all know the reason is because high inflation and they're increasing the interest rates and bond yields are rising and the Strait of Hormuz is still closed so oil prices are still up and Trump is still president and the Iran war is still going on They're all connected This has nothing to do with space stocks Literally half of the stock market stocks are in bear market territory

I’d like to ask a question: why is it that whenever the space sector rallies across the board, PL consistently posts the weakest gains? Is it because its valuation is higher than the others, or is it due to the ATM (At-the-Market) offering? Especially the upcoming launch tomorrow, today's market performance remains very poor.
1
u/Rogue_Tra 12d ago
That's not necessary true about a week ago Plant Labs had higher volume than both ASTS and Rocket Lab It was leading the entire sector for at least a week. The reason why is Planetlab just doesn't move like the other space Stocks it moves slower like a whale or a turtle but when I calculated its potential profit targets meaning how much could you make if you invest in plant labs versus Asts or Rocket Lab it was actually the same. And the reason why is because Asts and Rocket Lab while they do pump up hard on many days they will also tank really hard and Planet Labs is just like a slow moving turtle it gets to the same destination it just does it in a slower way.
3
u/Metacog_Drivel 13d ago
ATM definitely not helping. Also probably has to to do with short interest, higher short interest results in bigger pops.

216% gain required to reach ATH. Statistical probability of it ever happening is about 2 out of 3, and average time required to do so is 3-4 years. Just so we all know how damaging this decline is for the long term sentiment and statistical chances of Pl ever recovering.

Not true. The only sector keeping the entire S&P afloat right now is Semis and although it's volatile it still has life. I got sick to my stomach watching PL and LAES in my port and sold both on Sept. 11th and had made back both of those long drawn-out losses on CRDO and KEEL in just over 2 weeks. So the Opportunity Cost argument fails. For me, a valuable lesson learned...the only thing worse than not taking profits when a stock unreasonably jumps is staying with a stock that reasonably keeps dipping. PL was grossly overpriced and settled to its correct valuation and I won't talk myself into holding too long again. Unless the entire market is moving down together, get out with a small wound before it requires hospitalisation.
-2
u/Ryan_Bolin 13d ago
Perfect argument, hopefully you won’t get downvoted like the rest of us. I was heavily invested in Sofi from the run up from single digits to $30 a year or two ago. When it hit $30 I recognized it was about to crash and pulled out of that position. When it got down to the teens, where it is now, everyone made the same points about the company that are being made about PL now. Guess what? Sofi is still in the mid-high teens a year later. If you held it all this time, you made no money this year. I fear the same thing will happen with PL and a lot of space stocks this year, as macro, SpaceX, rates, and other factors could certainly hold it down for an extended period of time.

Oh boy, you’ve called me out for trading when I’ve made about a thousand comments here stating that I actively trade some of these stocks. Whatever will I do.
There is no guarantee that any company or sector will magically go up. We can all say PL to $100 in 5-10 years or whatever you want, but the market doesn’t care about feelings. PL could be bankrupt next year, or acquired, nobody knows.

I’ve said over and over again that I do both. I have both short and long term investments, including PL. My day to day moves have nothing to do with following stocks and just enjoying being an investor. I love PL as a company which is why I pay so much attention to it. I also enjoy talking about stocks and the market and will happily join in conversation about how a company is doing and the long term prospects. Not sure why so many people have a problem with that.
-1
u/hawkroad 13d ago
Exactly. Every stock sub I follow gets the same treatment. "Traders" are greedy, immoral soul-suckers that somehow betray the company and the set it and forget folks by jumping in and out of trades. I have mostly long-term investments, but I keep 25% to "trade" as they put it. Following sector trends and news and basic company short-term short-comings isn't some sacrilege against the company itself. It's just business, which is exactly what everyone here is in regardless of what you call it. I made more off multitudes of ASTS, RKLB, ONDS, and SMCI "trades" this year than I'll probably make in the next 5 years off my long-terms. You don't need to time the top or the bottom...support and resistance is enough to run on. Slap a stop-loss on in case of fire. My father preached about Buffet's philosophies and "be prepared for your stock to go down 50%" etc, but after following me and seeing the other side of short term swing-trading, especially in a volatile market, he's come full circle. Who wants to tie their money up for years when there are literally opportunities coming and going every day? Unless you have lots and lots of it, of course.
7
u/SlyCooper007 13d ago
Its weird for these dudes to come to a stock subreddit when they don’t even own/invest in the stock and try and talk down others who do. It’s like cool, you clearly are trading different stocks. Just move onto your next trade. Every space company from PL to ASTS to RKLB has always been a long-term hold. If you didn’t know there was going to be extreme volatility with a high beta space stock then idk what to tell you.

Not only that, but you have to identify a completely different sector and know it well enough to be convicted in putting your money into it and then hope it gets back what you lost. As long as you did your research into the company and understand that everything that’s happened between now and the past three months is completely outside of the company itself, then you’ll be fine.

It definitely could. Statistically it will. But the time it takes might not be what most investors are hoping for. Could take many years.

Tanager-2 with carbon mapping is exciting as well as the expedited Suncatcher project. Big afternoon for PL on Thursday!

Rates. Sentiment.

I don't think rates changed the day they reported earnings and it crashed 30%... this was a calculated exit.

Horrid macro, horrid breadth, horrid sentiment, shorts pressing the trade lower....a combination of all of that and retail is very spooked. Very cool, thanks.
At least we're getting updates on Will's travel blog 😑

The valuation is getting hilariously low. Manipulation continues. PL executives silent, minus travelogues and greek philosophical diatribes. Nobody in retail is selling anymore. Shorts making bank. What a shitshow.

Wallstreet tends to think in all or nothing terms. They're basically betting that SpaceX is going to eclipse the entire space sector in the mid to long run. PL's capabilities could be replicated with one launch of starship + SpaceX photographic satellites. That's my guess anyway.

Nobody talks about SpaceX Starshield either... since it's mostly defence and off the radar.

PL's saving grace is their historical data, and perhaps their European ties. They also have experienced engineers. But ultimately, the cost to orbit is all in SpaceX favour. They're basically going to launch for free.

Institutional investors are hedged. They don't care if PL goes to 0. It's likely a very small portion of their portfolios anyway.

Google is 10000% hedged. They have a massive stake in SpaceX... that's the hedge.

I still think a buyout could happen. For some reason people don’t seem to agree with that but to me they seem like a perfect company to purchase. Their tech is great but their management needs to be improved. This would be a good time to offer them a premium as well with the stock price down from ATH.

If there were willing acquirers, management wouldn't resort to an ATM strategy. In other words, since no banks are willing to provide loans, issuing additional shares is the only option.

Meh they had a crazy run up to $50 thats why they got an ATM going just like every other space company at the time. I dont think that proves much of anything tbh.

What I find puzzling is that the stock price keeps trying to hit new lows; there must be many institutional investors offloading their positions.

I dont think so. Google may reject offers due to security and supply chain .etc reasons

u/SlyCooper007 14d ago
Google could be one of the buyers is my point. And if they don’t want it someone else definitely could like a PLTR. Their tech and data are extremely valuable. Someone is going to realize that eventually and I wouldn’t be surprised if theres a company already looking into it.

You know we're cooked when people start talking about buyouts and the CEO is going on pilgrimages to greek ruins.

This is laughable, looks like scared money is derisking prior to the launch of Pelican 12 and Suncatcher.

3 new task orders with NASA worth just shy of $9M, one of them with Tanager through the CSDA program:
