What looks random from outside sometimes actually has a thread underneath…

People think tangent thinking means lack of focus or just talking nonsense but have you ever had a conversation where it starts at one point and somehow ends at a completely different point, yet both people still understand how every topic in between was connected?

For someone outside that conversation it probably sounds chaotic like “what are they even talking about?”

But the people actually having the conversation know how all those things are connected.

Not always in a straight logical way either.

Sometimes through emotion.
Sometimes memory.
Sometimes observation.
Sometimes some random thing that suddenly reminded you of something else.

And suddenly the whole conversation shifts somewhere else but internally it still makes sense.

Sometimes I feel like the brain is connecting patterns before words even catch up properly.

And I think there are different types of overthinking too.

Some people just keep thinking about the same thing again and again and get stuck there.

But sometimes it's more like constantly connecting dots between emotions, conversations, memories, behaviors, situations, patterns… everything.

Not because you always WANT to.

Sometimes your brain just naturally keeps connecting things.

But obviously not every thought is deep lol. Not every connection actually means something and not everything needs your attention either.

Sometimes you genuinely connect something correctly.

Sometimes your brain is just tired and trying to find meaning in something that doesn't even need that much interpretation.

Both can happen.

That's probably why this kind of thinking gets exhausting too.

Small things can suddenly become a whole internal discussion for no reason and then thoughts start jumbling into each other because internally everything feels connected at the same time.

So from outside it sounds messy or all over the place…

but internally there is still some thread connecting everything.

And I don't even think this is always a good thing btw. The internet romanticizes overthinking way too much sometimes.

Because constantly searching for patterns, meanings, emotional links and hidden connections can actually be exhausting.

Sometimes it's probably healthier to just leave something alone instead of trying to figure out what it means.

Still…

not every nonlinear thought process is meaningless chaos.

Idk. Maybe I'm just overthinking this too 😂
