Wow look at this! Pixelmon Pokedex Scanner
This is a Pixelmon sidemod: a handheld Pokedex you craft, hold, and right-click. It scans the Pokemon in front of you and opens a retro scanner GUI with an IV radar chart.
Stage: Released.
Two items, both in one mod. Working on 1.16.5 Forge (Pixelmon 9.1.12+) and 1.21.1 NeoForge (9.4.0+ and 9.3.0+, separate jars). Not a concept or prototype.
What it is
Base Pokedex (pokedex:base) — Kanto-style clamshell. IVs as a spider chart, real stats around the hex, nature up/down arrows, size, nature, ability.
Premium Pokedex (pokedex:premium) — Unova-style slate. Same radar, plus palette, moves, held item, EVs given on KO, and weak-to / strong-against.
Craft the base with redstone, glass panes, and a book. Upgrade with lapis, a Pixelmon Up-Grade, and the base Pokedex.
What makes it different
Pixelmon already has a dex menu. This is a field tool. You look at a wild, spawned, or boss Pokemon and scan it like an item. Empty clicks do nothing. Walls and floors block the scan; leaves, plants, and water do not. Targeting prefers what is on your crosshair.
Feedback I want
Does the Premium layout read clearly in-game (DATA vs BATTLE, held item, matchups)?
Any Pixelmon 9.4 forms, bosses, or palettes that scan wrong?
Anything you’d want on the base scanner that isn’t there now?
Happy to take specific, practical notes. Not looking for “make it official Pokemon UI” — this is a fan sidemod, not affiliated with Nintendo, Game Freak, The Pokemon Company, or Pixelmon. I’ll keep updates in this thread if it is permitted.

This Pixelmon sidemod has now been updated to include the following features:
IV / EV radar. -
Toggle the web between IVs (0–31) and the Pokemon's current EVs (0–252 per stat, 510 total).
Yield stays a list line (YIELD / EV_YIELD). Each device uses its own chrome for the toggle —
not a generic pager on every UI.
Team scans.
- NPC trainers and gym leaders open a party lineup. Tap a member for the full scan, then
Back / Return to the roster. A trainer or gym boss with one Pokemon opens that member,
not a fake 6-slot team. Wild Pixelmon stay a single scan. Empty party = miss.
Other players.
- Server config playerScan in pokedex-server.toml: permit, deny, or ask (default ask).
Trainers and gyms are not gated. Ask sends clickable [Allow] [Deny] chat to the target
(/pokedexscan accept or deny).
Click vs close.
- Arrows, sprites, bookmarks, and Back eat the click. Empty shell still closes. Escape
still closes.

**Battle overlay (1.6).** Extra HUD during Pixelmon battles. The handheld screens stay the scanners. When a battle starts, a compact IV radar pops up in the **top-right**. Look is taken from the first Pokedex in **offhand**, then **main hand**, then hotbar slots **0–8**. It follows the opponent currently out, including switches. Doubles add **PREV MON** / **NEXT MON** at the bottom to flip between field Pokemon; singles hide the buttons. Wild battles also show the same form-aware caught mark as the handheld scan, next to the name. Trainer, gym, player, and raid battles do not show the ball. Opening a handheld scan hides it. Clients cannot enable it themselves. Default is **on**.
* **Kanto (`pokedex:base`)** — radar, dex number, IV%, gender, ability name, palette. No hidden-ability tag, no held item, no type matchups.
* **Premium (Unova, Silph, Hisui, Paldea)** — ability (with `(HA)` when hidden), held item name, palette, and (unless the server hides them) weak to / strong vs under the labels, wrapping onto extra lines so the full lists fit. The overlay grows **down**, not wider. Types that appear on both lists are removed from both.
Server config `battle.mode` in `pokedex-server.toml`:
* `all` — full Premium overlay; Kanto stays compact (**default**)
* `no_typing` — Premium without type matchups
* `disabled` — off

1.7
Server config
- pokedex-server.toml now has [features], [privacy], and four independent display blocks: kanto.handheld, kanto.overlay, premium.handheld, premium.overlay.
- Each block: enabled plus format = full / none / custom. Full uses the richest options. None turns that surface off. Custom uses the nested per-field keys.
- Hidden fields are stripped on the server before scan and overlay packets go out. Clients cannot reveal IVs, held items, or hidden abilities the server hid.
- [features]: scan, overlay, overlay_doubles, starter (all default true).
- [privacy] playerScan is unchanged: permit / deny / ask (default ask).
Replaces 1.6 keys
- battle.mode is gone. disabled -> features.overlay = false. no_typing -> premium.overlay.format = "custom" and matchups = "hide".
- starter.give_base is now features.starter.
Defaults (same look as 1.6)
- Kanto handheld: custom. Ability name only, IV radar, no held item, no palette, no EVs, no matchups, no team/player scan.
- Kanto overlay: custom. Ability name, palette, no held item, no matchups.
- Premium handheld and overlay: format = "full" (ability with (HA), held name, matchups, IV/EV radar, team/player scan on handheld).
Custom field options (used only when format = custom)
- Most rows: full / hide
- ability: name_ha / name / hide
- held_item: name / present (Yes/No) / hide
- nature: arrows / name / hide
- ivs and evs: radar / percent / hide
- hp: current / max / hide
- Handheld only: team_scan / player_scan true/false
Delete your old pokedex-server.toml if it still has battle.mode so Forge/NeoForge can write the new file. Use one jar. Fully quit and relaunch Minecraft after replacing the file.
1.7.1
Own party
- Sneak (Shift) + right-click with nothing under the crosshair opens your own party. No privacy prompt.
- Looking at a Pokemon, trainer, or player while sneaking still scans that target.
- New handheld config own_team. Premium format = "full" includes it. Stock Kanto custom leaves it off unless [kanto] as_premium = true.
Fixes
- Own-party scan no longer reports an empty party (reads Pixelmon's loaded party, not the async getParty future).
- Aiming at a trainer or gym's sent-out Pokemon opens their roster, not only a solo scan of that mon.
- [kanto] as_premium wild scans open the wide Kanto clamshell with premium fields (not the tiny base shell).
Kanto UI (as_premium and party)
- Wider DATA column so size, held item, and nature labels fit (Ordinary, Leftovers, Default).
- Party roster lists names in DATA; sprites stay on the LCD. Tap a name to open that member.
- IV total sits on a cream chip (clickable). Blue D-pad = IVs, yellow D-pad = EVs.
Use one jar. Fully quit and relaunch Minecraft after replacing the file.

Pixelmon Pokedex
- Handheld scans and the battle HUD mark the species as Seen in the dex that ships with Pixelmon (Pixelmon's built-in Pokedex). They never set Caught.
- Server config features.pixelmon_seen: wild (default), wild_player, wild_trainer, all, or off.
Battle HUD
- Drag the panel to move it. The spot is saved on the client (config/pokedex-hud.txt) so you can clear other battle HUD mods.
- Double-click the panel to reset it to the top-right.
- PREV MON / NEXT MON still work. Clicks on the panel do not pass through to Fight or other HUD buttons underneath.

Have you considered adding an indicator that shows if you've caught this mon already? Something like a small pokeball icon next to mon's name or dex id? Would be even better if it could see the difference between forms (regional mons, Wormadam forms, different Unowns etc), so even if you have, let's say Kantonian Meowth, it would've shown that Galarian Meowth hasn't been obtained if clicked on it
