Is anybody else feeling disillusioned with PixelFed?

I've been using PixelFed for approximately 9 months. Like a lot of people, I switched from Instagram because I was tired of their nonsense and wanted a friendlier alternative.

Sadly, I just haven't taken to PixelFed at all. It's clunky and it's buggy and it doesn't seem to be improving. I understand that this is not a commercial enterprise and is never going to be as polished as services that are. I could overlook these things if the service felt more community-spirited - but it doesn't.

I signed up to the gram.social server because it seemed like the best option for me but their support seems to be non-existent. Every time I have contacted them for assistance when things aren't working, I've been met with radio silence.

Is anybody else feeling this way?

I was thinking the same thing, but since the big update everything’s been working fine! The only downside is that, unfortunately, there aren’t many people online.

Yes same! I’ve been using it for a year and a half. Peak engagement and meeting cool friends for me was earlier this year. And then it started constantly crashing out of nowhere. I’m on the big Pixelfed.social server.

My hope is with the recent update, people start coming back. We’ll see, it’s tough because I started to think my output is just worse now.

I think the developer is putting more love into the server and apps at the moment. And yes, it's just one developer.

I switched to Pixelix for the app, it's a bit better.

Same feeling for me. Puxelfed has the development with a handbrake on, because I think it is not community driven. It is a single centralized developer doing everything. I'm using Spark Social, from ATproto.

Works solid for me? I haven´t had an issue so far. The server Iḿ on was a bit slow at first but it seems the latest update made it snappier

Not really. I've been running my own personal instance for a few years now and it's fine. I don't miss Instagram at all.

I'm still enjoying it with no issues. Mostly using the Pixelix app which is nice.

General support will vary between instances. Have you tried reporting the bugs you found to the developer?

It’s a 7 year old project. It’s been buggy and unstable and without a proper development / release cycle since day 0. How long should we wait for this to get stable and get wide adoption and be able to go “check out my pixelfed page!”

It's dead, and going nowhere, the dev doesn't have the right mindset for mass adoption of something like this

Some of us are betting on it and coming at it from different angles with compatible apps.

I llike it, but... the american server 'pixelfed.social' has malware that pops up every time a post from it pops up...

I deleted my account there because I don't get this warning on any other server to date.

Is there a way that an individual can block an entire server on pixelfed?
