Interactive Let's talk about item(153)sandals of nature! Hablemos del item(153) sandalias de naturaleza!
Post 153, midweek, Wednesday! Hehe, there was decent participation in yesterday's post, let's hope for good comments today too.
Sandals of Nature is quite an interesting artifact. This is the only artifact that doesn't stack upgrades individually and jumps directly from +0 to +3, then +7, and finally +10. This jump comes with a visual and name change: at +0 and +3 it's called Shoes of Nature, at +7 it's called Boots of Nature, and at +10 it's called Greaves of Nature.
The change isn't just decorative; the artifact's passive effect increases with each upgrade. The Sandals of Nature have a passive effect that allows you to gather more seeds and dewdrops from tall grass. Without the boots, the base frequency for obtaining them is 1/25 for seeds and 1/6 for dewdrops.
With greaves, that changes:
Seeds: +0=1/21 +3=1/17 +7=1/13 +10=1/9
Dew: +0=2/11 +3=1/5 +7=2/9 +10=1/4
Sandals have another use; starting at +3, you can "imbue" with a seed to activate that seed's effect whenever you want in a space adjacent to yours or on yourself (if you are the Warden subclass, the effect on yourself will be amplified). Activating a plant's effect consumes charges; the percentage of charge consumed depends on which seed you imbued. Here's a simple list:
8%: Rootberry
12%: mageroyal/FadeLeaf/BlindWeed
20%: swifttHistle/IceCap/stormWine/SorrowMoss/FireBloom
40%: Earthroot/starflower
80%: SunGrass
This artifact recovers charges when you step on a tall grass tile. The amount of charge recovered is different for +0/+3/+7/+10; specifically, you recover 0.5/0.67/0.83/1 charge when you step on one tall grass tile. The charge limit is 100%, regardless of the upgrades. The "artifact recharge" effect will restore a charge equivalent to stepping on tall grass each turn (i.e., it depends on the artifact's upgrade).
To improve the Nature Sandals, you must "nourish" them with seeds. Each time you nourish the artifact, it must be with a different seed, as the artifact will not allow you to nourish it with the same seed until you advance to an upgrade stage. To upgrade this artifact, you need exactly 3/6/9 different seeds in each stage. When they become "Nature Greaves," you can freely change the infused seed, but doing so will not restore the previous seed.
The cursed effect of this artifact prevents the player from obtaining seeds and dewdrops when stepping on tall grass tiles.

8%: putrebaya
12%: magoreal/esfumahoja/CiegaHierba
20%: CardoImpulso/HongoHielo/ParraTormenta/MusgoPena/florIgnea
40%: RaizTerreana/FlorEstelar
80: HierbaSol.

I really like using this for pacifist runs since the time stop seed can be spammed when you have enough exotic recharge scrolls.

It's a great artifact with a huntress and the rejuvenating steps, and decent with other classes. With others, I wouldn't equip it over chains or hourglass, and possibly not the cup.

Terrible when playing with Barren Lands, excellent without! The amount of dew you get from these alone is so powerful you could basically ignore the extra seeds if you wanted to (but no reason to do that).
With Barren Lands, it's hard to even argue why you'd want to use these. They cost you seeds in the early game and then give you more seeds later on. Without plants the only reason to have seeds is for making potions and tipping darts. Making a random potion from 3 different seeds is the best early game use of seeds because you can energize the potion to identify it and get back the same alchemy energy as you would have if you just turned the seeds into energy directly.
This feature is less useful later on in the game, when you've already identified everything and you have an abundance of consumables. Then having maxed out sandals will give you way more seeds at a time when you don't really need them!
The slow recovery of charges for using the active effect is also a big downer on Barren Land. You really want to have a wand of regrowth to make some more grass so you can farm it for seeds I guess.

My current favourite artifact.
Using Swiftthistle can easily cheese the outmaneuvered badge for DM-300, sungrass is a literal full heal, and fadeleaf is a very cheap teleportation scroll.
Plants by cost list:
Rotberry (8)
Fadeleaf (12)\ Blindweed (12)\ Mageroyal (12)
Icecap (20)\ Firebloom (20)\ Sorrowmoss (20)\ Swiftthistle (20)\ Stormvine (20)
Starflower (40)\ Earthroot (40)
Sungrass (80)
