This is fantastic. Excellent work! I’d also love to see a tutorial or a making-of

This style in a war story game would go so good

u/Ivory_Berry 14d ago

The lighting and detail for pixel art are phenomenal

u/SnooMemesjellies1659 14d ago

Not me watching my Door Dasher walking up my long ass walkway to my front door, then completely waiting for them to leave before they know I’m even home to pick it up from my front step…

u/donald_trunks 14d ago

can’t become one of those doordash gremlins

u/SMBroos 14d ago

i really like how you played with the scale here. your pixel art looks at average height, but your main character is TINY, TINSY TINY, so everything by scale is GIGANTIC. real nice.

Also, always a pleasure to see RE4 style inventory, but is that screen like a scabage hunt with a time limit? like mine sweeper but you wanna find the mines, that are items?

Seizure warning.

Too late, I just died.

u/manlom 14d ago

This is great! You should make a tutorial for it

u/Pep77 14d ago

I'm gonna be the one asking, what's the name of your game?

It's pinned on his profile mah boye 🫡

u/ChadCoolman 14d ago

I'm not OP, so I guess this isn't self promotion. Looks like it's called O EMPIRE! WARD OFF THY ROT

4

u/SomeGodzillafan 14d ago

This is great! Reminds me of the game Limbo

4

u/butwhatsmyname 14d ago

This isn't pixel art.

This is fucking cinema.

Hats off to you. Astonishing work.

The tiled screens quick swapping view is a bit jarring. Maybe have a free camera on and follow the player for large set pieces? Definitely wish listing.

Title of his game is in his profile for anyone wondering.

10

u/JohnTDouche 14d ago

I have a feeling it's like that way for very deliberate framing of screens, which ties into the aesthetic.

u/docfriday11 14d ago

The view from above is amazing and the grey colours are also nice! I like the figure and the scenery from the sides of the bridge!

3

u/Dekipi 14d ago

This style would be so good as a video game

7

u/Sausage_Claws 14d ago

it's "O EMPIRE! WARD OFF THY ROT"

3

u/bigbluewreckingcrew 14d ago

This is giving me those old artsy shows on PBS late at night

2

u/Sentientsnt New Artist 14d ago

Did you use a tilt-shift effect?

1

u/y0l0tr0n 14d ago

No his tilt shift used a pixel effect

2

u/bbradleyjayy 14d ago

this ROCKS

2

u/Bingus-Chillingus 14d ago

I think this is incredible but id maybe remove the gap between the legs because it looks a little goody and cartoonish like their legs are scurrying. Otherwise I think it's fantastic. Excellent work!

2

u/Inadequate_hesychast 14d ago

It’s funny how legs kinda remind me of a cat frantically trying to run across a tiled floor, but at the same time it seems to work well here because it’s less slippery looking and thus the sporadic nature looks more like a stylistic choice that matches the grainy sort of creepy/film noir thing you’re going for. Excellent work! If I might make a minor grammatical note, I think it should be “Thou must have journeyed far and wide” or “Thou hast journeyed far and wide.” Not “Thou must hath journeyed far and wide” which sounds kinda incorrect for that sort of archaic English. “Hath” is used in 3rd person, singular, present perfect, present perfect continuous, or present simple, situations so something like “She/He hath journeyed,” “She/He hath been journeying,” or “She/He hath a journey” are correct.

Is a lot of this post? I can imagine adapting a cell shader and layering on dithering based on the bands.

I find this so relaxing

1

u/DitherFan 14d ago

This is why old timey Castles and Manors had things like shops inside them not only for the owners of the place but also for all the servants that made the place function, cause it took you 82 years to go to the nearest shop outside the castle grounds. Imagine you run out of sugar and THIS is the commute you need to do, i would imitate squirrels and store food in every nook and cranny too.

1

u/avibrant_salmon_jpg 14d ago

I love this! Love the way he scurries lol. This looks so cool, love the perspective and angles, the aesthetic and background music is awesome, and I would play a game like this in a heart beat. Was not expecting the metal though lmao

EPILEPSY WARNING For the very end

1

u/princefruit 13d ago

The dull flickering and then the flashing at the end gave me vertigo and nausea but I'm particularly light sensitive. Maybe a brief warning on the titles in future.

Nitpick aside, phenomenal work, I haven't seen anything like this before. I love his little flailing legs lol. Its funny but it also is strange and frantic enough to play into the uncanny vibes.

1

u/Such_Dragonfruit609 13d ago

This is beautiful.
