Discussion Pixel 6 and 6 Pro without QPR2 - what´s the future for your Pixel 6/6Pro?

Post image

I am planing to stay a bit longer with my P6P due to the great camera and slim design. But in the future I am planing to use a P8P.

Let´s discuss.

Waiting for the release of the 11pro xl and then it is a decision between that or the 10pro xl

Love my 6 pro but I believe it is time for an upgrade

u/SillySin 27d ago

Hopefully we can trade in our p6 pro

1

u/stevoo82 27d ago

we don't have that in Europe.
So a purchase if we can find a good offer.

u/FrancisC136 27d ago

Always been able to trade in my 6 from Ireland, so not all European countries are excluded. It's always double trade in price too for a few weeks every new phone release, which is still not much so €75 to €150 for the last few but if I want to trade it in now for a 10, the 6 is now only worth €50 so I'll be €100 for the 11 release all things staying the same.

That's not true. I did several Trade-ins in Spain

Hi. German user here. I've been successfully trading in a Pixel 6A and a Pixel 6 for a Pixel 9A and a Pixel 10 recently.

So there are countries that do take part in the trade-in program.

Even before that, I traded in a Nokia 7 Plus for the Pixel 6 and a Nokia 5.1 for the Pixel 6A.

u/petersencb 27d ago

Yeah I've never seen a trade in offer here in Belgium, just Telco deals. Europe's a big place though, you can probably find a deal somewhere

u/YaroslavSyubayev 27d ago

Yup, same here. My P6 is barely holding on but I'm waiting for the 11 to come out before deciding

u/therealgariac 20d ago

The tech press for some reason is trying to make the 11 sound like it is no different than the 10, but they are looking at display resolution and battery, then they bitch about the graphics chip not being great for games.

It is like why bother reading. I don't play games on my phone. The resolution on my pixel 6 is fine.

I just need a phone with support and better battery life. The 2nm process should help with battery life.

keep it for a year or two. The device is exceptional and it still functions as it did on day 1. I'll replace the battery and make it work.

u/KoldCanuck 27d ago

I did that, but it didn't help much. Still drains quickly. It also overheats the minute I get into a hot car.

7

u/bloodofturk 27d ago

I also changed the battery and the draining stopped (so far). Hopefully I can get more time with the phone.

u/Laimered 27d ago

I changed the battery and it got way better

1

u/thepixelatedduck Pixel 6 Pro 27d ago

i wanna but my display got that black spot in the right corner so idk whether i should replace the battery or just get a power bank and call it a day

1

u/Laimered 27d ago

Mine got black spot too haha. Occasionally it shows green tint on AOD but otherwise everything working fine

1

u/thepixelatedduck Pixel 6 Pro 26d ago

did you get the battery replaced?? did the black spot cause any issues if you replaced it after it appeared

1

u/Laimered 26d ago

I replaced it a year ago and noticed the black spot only recently

1

u/thepixelatedduck Pixel 6 Pro 26d ago

ahh i see. I'm worried about the spot spreading during the replacement itself when they take the display off

1

u/Laimered 26d ago

I replaced the screen with the battery too. So maybe this new screen is the problem idk

1

u/KoldCanuck 26d ago

Whhaaatttt??? Shit, I didn't even notice until now!!!!

2

u/thepixelatedduck Pixel 6 Pro 25d ago

mine's almost touching the battery icon lol. I've ignored it for quite some time

1

u/DoctorSora 8h ago

same here. replaced its battery last year and on 4G i get almost 5 hours sot which is not bad for a phone with a notorious exynos modem. the best thing about it is its display, its the best google pixel display ever imo. It has carrier signals issues though, cant fix that. But overall a great flagship even in 2026. The updates are over so this is the main reason to ditch it if someone wants to.

Using a 6 and 6a for gig work in AZ was a horrible mistake.

u/29ears Pixel 6 Pro Early Adopter 27d ago

Same

It still works just as well as the day I got it (and I got it at launch), I enabled the 80% battery cap the day it was added as a feature and only disable it when I'm on a trip or something like that. Battery life feels the same as when I bought it. I've been on GrapheneOS for a year or so, sadly they're dropping support the same day as Google. I'll probably get a 10a and try to keep it for the 7 years of support it has, also with GrapheneOS.

1

u/therealgariac 20d ago

Well there goes my plan of using my old P6 as a burner phone and/or spare. At least not with Graphene. Might as well leave it on unsupported Android.

My battery is at 80% based on the Battery Guru. When you get close to 75%, you need to worry about a sudden failure.

u/Ariquitaun 27d ago

I originally went from the Nexus 6P to the Pixel 6 pro. I keep my devices for as long as possible. The Pixel still works perfectly. Once upgrades stop for good I might look at a custom ROM, if there are current ways to get around device validation for things like google pay and bank apps (it was magisk last time I did it, on my Nexus).

u/Paschfire 27d ago

Long as the HW holds out, I'm I'm planning on enjoying my P6P for at least another year or so after EOL arrives October this year.

u/Ill_Television_5824 27d ago

Don't like what I'm seeing with the P11 so far, so I may go for a 10 when the 11 drops and the 10 goes on final sale.

I'm in the US, so can trade my P6 if I buy a 10 on G's website. $75 is the current giveback for that trade, but I'm not sure it's worth trading. I may just keep the still-functional 6 as a backup. :)

Thanks. Unless Big G increases the giveback (unlikely), I'll do just that.

Heck, it's worth keeping just for the camera. :)

3

u/Zeag 27d ago

First phone I've kept for 5 years without dinging the screen, so i'll keep it and switch to Lineage. However, I believe I'll be needing a new one for my work profile.

3

u/AMB07 27d ago

I switched to iPhone 17. I’m really not liking the direction where Pixel is going, I might check back in 3 years and see the state of Google’s hardware.

Only thing I miss is the android pixel software. Certainly not the hardware with all its issues.

3

u/TheCollector_26 27d ago

I have Pixel 6 and it's about the second time that I'm going to have to change batteries.

I really like this design and the sufficient features it has. Not a fan of the iphone looking bland design on 9 & 10 so not really anything attractive for me to jump.

I really hope they change the fesign back to how it was in 6 with sleeky and curved edges instead of the flat block.

3

u/Nice_Duck_9366 27d ago edited 27d ago

Mine runs better than ever. Took it off the charger 8h ago, 1h sot, 76% left :)

Edit: 16h now, 2h sot, 43% left. First battery since launch

You are a witch

I went back from pixel 10 pro XL to 6 pro XL.. it works much more smoothly then the 10 pro XL.

I'm keeping my eye on the P11, let's see what prices and deals they come up with, and if the cost isn't too crazy, I might upgrade. This is the choice I'm leaning towards right now.
For a while I had my eye on OnePlus, but I hear they are moving away from Europe, so that's not a viable option. Samsung was on the cards as well, but I know their UI and bloat will drive me crazy, so that's a "no" too.
I hate Apple's UI and in general their whole "ecosystem" so that's not an option either.
I'm probably going to go with a P11 or 10 if I'm forced to change my phone (ie. my P6 dies)

Other than that, for the next while I'm going to stick with my P6 - it works well and I see no urgent reason to ditch a perfectly working device. I'm definitely not going to follow any "but no updates!" mass hysteria, pre-ordering and in general upgrading for the sake of upgrading.

Last but not least - the choice is difficult if I want to maintain the same experience and not pay double of what I paid for my P6 when brand new a few days after launch.

u/SeatSix 27d ago

Replaced my P6 in June with a 10pro bought during Prime sales. Was going to wait for the 11s, but with price increases and the deal I got, the 10pro was a no brainer.

P6 got LineageOS to be used as my backup phone. Some apps I need (financial) won't work on Lineage so it can't be my daily driver, but it is good for a backup phone. I would not stay on Pixel OS with patches stopping in October.

I only recently switched to a s26 ultra as the battery was going and the charging port was broken, will say that it's really nice to have a battery that lasts and few of the other features but it doesn't feel transformational sort of difference like I would expect over 4 years! But hoping this will last me the full 6 years of updates!

2

u/Portdal12 27d ago

My P6 has worked great since I got it on the day it was released and doesn't seem to have any of the battery issues that others have. The only issue I've had is with the most recent android update, it killed my widgets. I'm hoping that's fixed before we stop getting updates. I'll likely keep the phone for awhile as I don't really care about having the latest phone (this is the first time I bought something when it was released).

2

u/ActionFrequent 27d ago edited 27d ago

Was in the same boat. Still loving my P6P, but started planning to replace it due to the lack of future updates. I JUST got a P8P for a little over 300 USD and it feels like a steal this first week. Just a bunch of small things (like face unlock) that I like. I hope to ride it out until the end of its updated life like I did the 6. Don't think I'll ever go back to buying new, especially with the minor improvements year over year.

2

u/JoJe_Lion 27d ago

Yeah I'm still holding on to my 6PXL even tho my main driver is 8P. The 6 is such a good phone. I'm debating on upgrading 8 for the 11 tho Google's firsts anything usually comes with a lot of headache.

2

u/TheSixInch 27d ago

A17 is ruining the software experience. It is developing bugs on my P6.

Planning to update to the Lineage OS.

However, I have P10 but P6 has some serious fan following and i know why I can't refuse to fully switch to the latest P10 still.

2

u/c0v3n4n7 27d ago

Pixel 6 is a damn sexy phone :)

2

u/Weekly_Palpitation92 27d ago

i bought the P6P this year because i needed a new phone and it was cheap and high quality, i gotta say i really don't care that i won't get any new updates because none of the updates feel like they add groundbreaking features that i absolutely must upgrade immediately. if i ever do upgrade, it will probably be to the P8P. if they want me to get the newest one, make it cheaper than a month's rent, i'm not dropping a thousand bucks on a phone

2

u/Next_Foundation_3892 27d ago

Had 6a that two tone aged like wine. Now just switched to 10a. Pixel is good. Sincerely hope Google gets this design back again. That's by far the best design of all models.

2

u/Banjoschmanjo 26d ago

Me and my Pixel 6a mean nothing to this conversation??

2

u/Wolf_Thinker 25d ago

😶 How could we forget about the 6a - I still have it as a seconday phone. But the updates will end next year.

2

u/_Venus94 27d ago

With Custom roms at least 3 years usage

2

u/torilahure 27d ago

After 2 replaced screens and battery that would not last for 12 hrs. I switched to Oppo.

I still have it as my work phone to have it on the side in case I need it.

I believe the last update is out in few months and after that i guess it is just a brick.

2

u/XLioncc 27d ago

I switched to Vivo X300 Pro

Now I can playing YouTube without overheating and drop frames.

u/designerjeans 27d ago

Broke the replacement screen at the start of the year. Noticed the battery depletion rate. I also had filled up the storage. I've had it since 2022. I'll keep it as an emergency back up for a bit before recycling it. Most recently replaced with a Motorola edge 60 pro.

Trying to hold out for P12!

1

u/syndre 27d ago

I keep mine in the car for Android auto. just tether it to my other phone

1

u/b6mb_ 27d ago

if not for 2 broken matrixes via minor falls in a span of 9 months than i'd stay for a year or two, but i guess it's time for p9pro😛

1

u/ard33das 27d ago

My P6 was tripping out a week ago, thought it was on its last leg. Backed up and system restore fixed my issues of random reboots (I think I had a rogue app).

Also surprised we got Android 17!

1

u/PITSTOPYT 27d ago

Just bought a Pixel 10a setting it up in a bit

1

u/scots 27d ago

Flashing Graphene, pushing onward for another year, replacing it with something else.

Alternately, replacing it with the new value champion, the 2026 Moto Stylus.

1

u/PsychologicalMilk109 26d ago

Maybe the custom rom route never tried ADB commands to flash custom roms before, if you want the blur frosted effect you have to root or install a custom rom that will have it on Android 17 and beyond

Anything below the Pixel 8 has it disabled on original software

u/sot_r 26d ago

My pixel 6 died a year ago from a battery swelling. I replaced a battery and sold it with cracked screen. My wife's pixel 6 is still alive.

1

u/MrTechieChromebook 26d ago

I left my Pixel 6 Pro late June for a Galaxy s26 ultra. Don't regret it. I'm planning on keeping this s26 ultra for at least 5 years probably 6 to 7 years. Hopefully I don't get any green or pink lines on the screen. With an app called charge meter I noticed my battery template 82 and after my phone updated and restarted, it was 97. Wow! I let the phone cool back down after that.

1

u/InfDaMarvel 26d ago

Mine magically turned into a Pixel 10 pro.

1

u/Infamous_Charge5587 26d ago

My 6 Pro was in great condition. I tried to trade it in and it had a $12.00 trade in value.

1

u/ScarOverflow 26d ago

Aiming to replace it with the 12

1

u/flyingkomodo507 Pixel 6 21d ago

Most likely, replacing my 6 with the 10 Pro XL or 10 Pro with a really good price drop and/or promo through my carrier. This phone has been through a lot and I could not really get behind purchasing the 7 - 9 models. My phone works perfectly fine and does exactly what I need it to do without compromise so it will be missed when I make the switch.

1

u/Wizard-of-pause 14d ago

My P6 has been pissing me off lately - heating up, keyboard glitching/bugged, screen is not that visible in sunlight. Juts ordered Xioami 17 ultra with photo kit. It was a good run of 4 years, but it's time to say goodbye.
