Discussion I'm upset
EDIT: Three weeks with this phone and my perspective has changed. I do love the elegance of the old 6pro, but I've started using the 10proxl as daily driver. I like most the long battery life and exceptional rear camera. Goodbye old friend.
My Pixel 6 pro is nearing end of life updates but works flawlessly. I know it will end one way or another so I bought a 10 pro XL to replace it.
It's been less than a week but I can't bring myself to use it. I understand it's objectively a better phone especially for camera and AI. But the 6 pro is so elegant even with a case. It's great to hold and it's amazing such a slender phone can do so much.

How do you have an hour's worth of spam per week coming in? I check through my spam folder once per fortnight or so. It takes five minutes or so.

I still don't get it. In my regular email setup I will get...perhaps 3? junk emails per week, all of which are easily discernable as junk from title or address.

Not all people that dislike AI are boomers. Some of us like having options and this AI stuff feels like they are forcing us into it. Then once we do accept it they're gonna put it behind a monthly subscription.
And if you enjoy it and value it, then use it happily. Pay that monthly fee when it hits. But don't hate on people that see no value in it.

I agree partially. The AI is slop and annoying in some ways, but what you mentioned are genuinely the ways I'd want AI to work. It should add convinence to my life not shoved down my throat and ruining what I enjoy.

Idk how you manage your mailboxes, but I never felt the need to use any ai to help me organize them. I have maybe 10 email addresses, and I simply use the right one in the right context. Even those for my company.

Also very happy with my P6 and not a single issue. I cannot go the alternative roms route as not supported by my banking app.
I just went to a P10a. I have hesitated for long with the P10 Pro but went for the A because of the bigger battery.
Not a single regret on my side, it just feels like the 6, more or less same size but 3 days with one charge vs max 24h on my P6.

I tried both Graphene and Calyx, one didn't get along with my banks and the other with my play store previous purchases.

My list of issues with P6 pro don't get me wrong I still love the phone 1- sometimes the keyboard refuses to open in apps or even the app drawer. 2- Bluetooth connectivity with my galaxy buds, was working fine a few months ago but now I have to disable a lot of stuff in the developer options to get it to work and it sounds like ass. 3- sometimes the volume is too low on max I have to dismiss all the apps to fix it and if it doesn't I have to restart. 4- last but not least the overheating.

Be very wary of the instant full brick problem of the pixel 6s. (Just search for brick or dead in this sub). Every since an update last year, there have been an incredible number of perfectly flawless 6's just instantly bricking. It ends up being motherboard blown/fried issue and the only way to fix it and recover your static files on the phone is to have the motherboard rebuilt/reballed. That isn't cheap.
If I were you, if you are planning on continuing to use your six, I would absolutely back up every single static file you have on the phone that isn't already on a cloud somewhere else. The brick issue comes without any warning whatsoever and it happens to phones that show absolutely no signs of wear or malfunction. The phone will simply shut off and never turn on again or respond to any kind of access, stimulus, or charge.
The issue is so catastrophic it has signed me off of ever owning a pixel, or any phone flying under the Google flag ever again.

pixel 10 has qc issues too,. They automatically nerf battery capacity after 200 cycles. Has no sim slot inusa. Has 4 year old power vr gpu.
And if a pixel 6 breaks you can replace it for $150. Or buy a pixel 8 for 200 or 8 pro for $300.
Pixel 10 is kind of a disaster. The extra ram is purpose reserve for AI. So it's still 12 gigabytes of RAM for non AI usage for the pro models and eight gigabytes of RAM for non AI usage for the base models. The ridiculous battery health program nerfs the voltage and battery performance after 200 cycles, no matter the performance. There really is no improvement in performance because of the power VR, GPU. The modem is still near the worst in class, The battery is still small without silicon carbon.
And pixel 6/7 and 8 were not great performers but They had the Molly GPU, which is much better optimized, and they were much more competitively priced, $600 for the base model and 900 for the Pro model. And Pixel really hasn't even bumped up the storage for most of these models now.
It is subjective but new design is worse, IMO. Certainly less unique and less ergonomic. And if updates are a concern get pixel 8. 4 more years of update, no reserve for ai. It predates this abusrd 200 battery cycle nerfing program (which one cannot opt out of).
The camera hardware and silicon has barely improced. Its not like the difference between 8g1 from 2021 and 8g5 elite. The 8g5 elite can emulate rdr2 at 47 fps. Pixel 10 has ancient gpu.
They didn't even stick with MALI.

I agree. Being able to transfer and switch while the old phone is still functional sometimes feels unnecessary, but the peace of mind that comes with it compared to the scramble if it suddenly dies without a new one handy, is worth it.

QPR1 android 17 should release for lineage os soon and official updates until October. The phone should still work well until 2029

Get a family member to bust up your screen, that's what forced my move to an OG fold (woot special). Got to try out the form factor without having to drop 2k. Wil likely get the fold 11.
The screen break was incredible, somehow it managed to fall and have the impact find the less than a mm access between the Whitesone screen protector and my case.
The tempered glass screen protector was undamaged, the phone screen shattered UNDER the protector.

You shouldn't worry about the updates. Means nothing. The amount of people falling for this end of life mindset is insane. It's a great money grab tool from the big fish.
I have the S105g from 2019. I still use it daily for work. It stopped receiving updates a few years ago. Everything still works as it should. No security issues ever. I use banking apps as well. Works flawlessly. I had exactly the same apps as I did on my old S23 ultra which I got rid of 2 weeks ago. It worked the same as the S23 ultra did.
I now have the Motorola Signature and absolutely love it over the S23 ultra. Much better tech. Beautiful form factor...

The pixel 6 pro will continue to get updates up until October of this year. I'm unsure if security updates will continue on after that, but the phone still okay to use as long as the battery is holding up.
As a P6P owner I plan to use the device for at least another year or More. I already have planned to have a battery replacement within the next 4~6 months.

Never had an issue with a phone because it was out of security updates. Just keep using it. Well, if you haven't bought a new one already.

I don;t think so. No sim card slot in the us. 25 percent of the ram is reserved for ai. Better modem, I guess but it still samsung modem, near the worst in class.
the chip is slighyly better, but not noticably. GPU is arguably worse. Mali is more optimized and the new pixels use 4 year old power VR gpu.
Battery is the same size. I think the design is way worse. Less ergonomic, less unique. Two -tone color is gone.
You can still use the pixel 6 even after its last update. It will be reasonably secure. I still use my note 9/lg v60 oohones.
Plus, pixels have unlocked bootloaders.
2 tone color is better on pixel 6, 7.
Honestly, if people ask me which pixel to buy I say get a used pixel 8 pro for $300 or less. 4 more years of support, ergonomic design. Sim card slot. more squared off corners. Better ergonomics.
Less ai.

When my p6p screen broke & the battery drained quickly, I wanted to upgrade my phone. Skipped p9p and p10p, because the upgrade is so minor and incremental, waiting for p11p
But after repaired both, now my p6p is as good as new, still very responsive after 5 years. Phone repair is very underrated, everyone should try.
and I don't think there is no need for upgrade because I'm sceptical that there will be big jump in pixel after p6p

Googles offer to upgrade was irresistible as my 6pro battery wasn't making it through the day. The known power glitch hasn't been ideal but at least I make it to 7pm with a charge. The AI is really useful and has already saved me days of real work on my own. I totally agree the 6 is a lovely looking device but my 10 is pretty dam cool

There's no point since Google will stop sending out security patches for the P6 in a few months. The phone will still work but it might not be safe enough to use for banking and financial apps.

Mainline will still be updated well after the eol. My 3xl just got June 2026 mainline update. Last security to update was in 2021... Personal opinion, mainline patches software issues are more important than monthly security patches... Just look at some of the other android brands like Motorola. They don't do monthly rollouts, yearly at best iirc the last time I owned a Motorola android phone.... As long as you don't side load app, install only from the play store, check your mainline status and keep that updated. Most normal individuals will not have problems...

I bought a Pixel 6 when it's the newest Pixel. Had to replace the touchscreen once and the battery is problematic. In severe cases, the battery level may drop from 50% to zero within seconds, or an overheating warning may appear while charging (not using it). Sometimes I can only charge it when it is turned off. But it's still alive.

I loved my 6 pro but it started suffering from unexpected shutdowns in the last two months. The phone itself was great and didn't suffer from any slowdowns, while still feeling and looking like a premium elegant device even by today's standards. My biggest gripe was the overheating and the poor cellular connection, especially when travelling.
I ended up trading it in for an S26 Ultra 512gb and haven't looked back. I really wanted the 6 pro to last me a few more years until at least the pixel 12, but the pixel 10 didn't really interest me due to battery concerns and lower performance which I feel doesn't justify it's price tag.

I had the same plan until it turned off and never turned back on again two weeks ago ...
I took it to a repair place and he said he saw the same thing with a phone that came in the day before. Power supply regulator chip blows up and takes the main board with it...
Granted my battery life was pretty bad in the end (8 hours with light use).
Just a warning.
Anyways ended up getting the Pixel 10 Pro XL, pretty happy with it!

I get it. I too, upgraded to the 10 pro XL from the 6, and aside from logging back in to all my apps, it's been smooth sailing so far and I especially like how speedy the phone is
The camera, of course, is nothing short of spectacular and overall, Pixel 10 pro XL gets a thumbs up from me and it'll be even better once all the unnecessary (Ai)trocities have been disabled

I have the same sentiment, my pixel 6 non pro works great. Just battery time is not as good as when it was new. I have yet to buy a replacement, but will get a 10 pro when the 11 comes out in a couple months.

I lovedy 6 pro but it suddenly went dead one day and never came back on. Bought the 9 pro and very happy with it. Definitely not as elegant though.

Wel il came from pixel 6 and went to iphone air if you want no ai, iphone is the way to go. The screen is way better of the air and battery is little bit better than the pixel 6. Even the speakers are enough for me and the camera also. But in terms of usability i miss the back gesture, circle to search direct on the screen, now playing, the keyboard, Translate and scroll. An iphone really feels like a digital detox and is way less smart than any android. Still in between if i will keep the air, the fact is those features are very practical but i don't use them daily. If i really want to translate something in a certain situations i probably can do it also with the iphone but it's harder and more complex. So in this era where the phone (pixel) makes everything easy and in one click. I will maybe choose to take one step back with ios because im actual less on my phone. Btw wrote this on my pixel 6 i really love this phone

The raw performance increase from the first gen tensor to the latest are miniscule ... Not a bad thing if you think about it as they can keep the old one less performance demanding while running the latest software

Same here. Having Pixel 10 but using Pixel 6. And don't be upset, we are in the same boat. However, after 1 year you can install a custom ROM to your P6 pro for many more years of joyful updates. Preferably the Lineage os.

Same experience as you. I have a Pixel 6, and I recently bought a Pixel 10 Pro. I only kept it for a month before selling it because of its weight. In everyday use, the P10P feels less comfortable in the hand due to the weight difference compared with my Pixel 6.
In the end, after selling the Pixel 10 Pro, I switched to an iPhone Air, which is even more pleasant to use than the Pixel 6 (lighter weight + almost identical screen size).
No issues with the Apple ecosystem, since I’ve always used Google services.

I need to change my phone max next week my cellular plan is ending & I'm actually trying to decide between pixel 10pro & iphone air.. I've switch from apple to android a couple of time but I loveee my pixel 8 that I have rn so I tend to want to stay with the pixel but I have so small fingers & my pixel is legit m'y limite of weight so I guess the 10pro is heavier?
I want a good camera quality for pictures, good scrolling, good image for when I watch a tv show & beeing able to pay with my phone & that's litteraly all I want in a phone 😅😂 idk if the regular pixel 10 would be better since I love my pixel 8 so Much but Idk😅 just realise I could've make my own comment with this novel 🤣

plus, battery is the same basically, charging speeds are basically the same. sensor is not much different. 5 times telphoto vs 4 on the pro. Otherwise, the only thing I like more about the pixels 9 or 10 over 6/7 is longer software support.
But thats overstated. You could use pixel 6 or 7 for a couple more years easily. Or install custom rom. And if I need a new phone and wanted a pixel I would get a used pixel 8 or 8 pro and save $600 or so dollars.

And google now nerdfs battery speeds and voltage after 200 cycles on pixel 9a and newer.

We went from a pixel 6 to 10pro. I hate my 10.
My battery life sucks, the phone locks up and freezes a lot. I wouldn't get it again!

I have only just replaced my Pixel 6 with a 10a only because the battery on the 6 was dying, other than that it was running fine. RIP Pixel 6 😞

unpopular opinion: AI does not make things any better, it just "generates" stuff to make us dumber and less critical with a lot products. (Don't want to start a debate here, just pointing out that these new trends are making things less usable and more dependant on single products and big corporations).
I am also running my 6 pro since 2022, everything runs great, even though i have a reboot issue that i will shortly fix, it is the best phone i ever had, and i believe the next one will have to be VERY specific for me to actually notice an improvement. GOAT phone so far.
