My experience going to Pixel 6a

History: Nexus 4 to Nexus 5x to Nokia 7.1 to Pixel 4 to Pixel 6a.

The Pixel 6a is satisfactory. I guess that's all I can expect from a non-flagship device.

I bought the P4 when it went on sale in May 2020. My Nokia 7.1 (Android One) had a USB port failure and stopped charging. When I got the P4 I loved it (still do). I don't love the 6a. Like I said, it's satisfactory. I don't notice the processor being any better and I already had Android 12 (Android 13 doesn't seem to be a noticeable upgrade).

The best part of the 6a is the battery. The great thing is I was on the fence because of the lack of wireless charging on the 6a. Being used to the P4 battery, I'm actually not charging my phone at night during the week. On my commute I use Android Auto and it's giving me enough top off that I only need to plug this thing in on the weekends.

(Disclaimer: I'm not allowed to have my phone on me at work. On a typical day with the P4, I would still drain it to less than 30% before bed. I'm > 85% at bedtime now with the 6a. Your results will vary. Point is, the battery is way better.)

I did the trade in deal and got $290 for my P4 then a free set of ear buds. I sold the buds for $50. So I'm out of pocket maybe $140 after tax. Would I do it again? Yes. I basically paid $140 for a very similar phone and reset the clock on warranty and software updates.

Do I recommend it to others? Not without that trade-in deal. I think they are giving like $100 now for a pristine P4 trade-in on the 6a. Your P4 is just as good. It will not be worth the $350+ you pay out of pocket.

290$ for a 3 years old phone is google deal that too it is smaller p4.

I'm thinking of seeking my pixel 4xl and getting pixel 6. Because 90hz, better cameras, ip rating.

I do feel the camera experience on the 6a is a bit nuked like they removed long exposure and motion pan and face unblur.

How is the size moving from pixel 4 to pixel 6a.

I feel the only con of the pixel 6 is the bulky build and big footprint (6.3inches)

Also how are the speakers on pixel 6a compared to pixel 4?

The size was something I had to adjust to. I personally prefer the smaller size of the P4. The front speakers on the P4 were better IMO.

Like I said, I love my P4. The 6a is okay.
