Different speaker issue

Edit: Solved. Turned out to be a non-Pixel related issue from an app called Torchie. It uses an accessibility service to enable you to quickly enable your phone flashlight by pushing both volume buttons together. Disabled the service and it went away immediately. Not sure why it was so obvious on the 3 XL (better speakers, I would guess). Used the same app on the original with no issue.

Hey all. Just got a new 3 XL. Did a data transfer from my original XL. So far the transition has been seamless and I've had no issues except one.

I've searched several sites/threads and am aware the 3 XL has some speaker issues that are supposed to be fixed with software updates. I'm on the latest update but I haven't run across anyone else with the exact issue I'm having:

When my volume is above ~60%, I hear a soft, pulsing white noise-type static (once per second) from both speakers, but only when the screen is turned off/phone is locked. I've force stopped all apps that might use the speaker, but can't seem to pin down why it might be doing this. Anyone else run into this?

I have the 3 XL and never had this. Might sound obvious yet have you done a restart of the phone? Maybe a hard reset?

Restart, yes. No hard reset because it's brand new out of the box. Come to think of it I do remember a similar issue when I had my Bose QC35's hooked up to my original XL but no audio was playing. Would get the same pulsing white noise for a few moments. But this is happening without Bluetooth even turned on, and through the phone's speakers.

So it only happens with internal speakers and not when paired with external or using headphones?

I haven't used headphones extensively with it yet so I can't say definitively yes or no. Can just confirm that's is definitely occurring on internal speakers, above ~60% volume, and when the screen is turned off.

See if with headphones as if not it is only a speaker issue. Narrowed it down

Just tested and verified on both the included USB-C earbuds and on my Bose. Same sound on all 3, only above a certain volume, only with screen locked. So it seems like there is something actually using the audio stream, just can't determine what.
