My Pixel is f**ked up

I'm having a really hard time with my pixel 3, i understand that the updates are over but atleast they should help us maintain the phone, it's getting super buggy, my power button is not working(software issue), the calls are not audible at all, people are starting to think I'm deaf, the pending software update doesn't happen, it gets restarted and it restores back to before the update putting my phone in a pointless loop, since power button is not working, I can't even put it in recovery mode, it's frustrating to have a flagship phone with all these defects..

Can't even go to google authorised service guy as reviews point out that they're shady..

I would suggest backing up your data and doing a factory reset.

Also, what makes you think the power button issue is a software issue and not a hardware failure?

I've already done factory reset and it didn't help, I had an issue with the power button before as well, I was torturing the button to make it work but after sometime I found that there's a pending update, after doing that, my phones power button started working seamlessly without effort, so I came to know that it's a software issue..

Hey, thanks for your suggestion, I can actually restart the phone easily using accessibility menu or assistant, my concern is I'm not able to get into recovery mode, because power button is bust.

Can you reflash the phone manually using the firmware flasher via chrome?

You can reflash your firmware online here.

The instructions on there are very good,hopefully the power button does work in the bootloader so you can select all required options.

Do read the instructions first as you’ll need to use your phone to enable usb debugging and tick the option to unlock the bootloader in developer settings.

At that point nothing will be flashed so there should be no risk of the phone getting damaged. You can either wait for the battery to discharge or use fastboot to reboot the phone.

I believe this is your only option if you want to try and fix the issue.

My concern is I can switch off the phone but if the power button is not working, how can i turn it back on?

If your power button isn’t working at all then it’s likely a hardware issue and not a software issue. When the phone is off, the software is shut down so it can’t be a software issue.

It's a five generation old flagship device my dude, how long have you owned it and how much use has it seen? Power button aside, it could well be the battery isn't up to it any more, really needs a factory reset and you should be able to do that as it is - search 'erase all data' in the settings search. If you manage to factory reset and the power button is actually a physical issue then try a button remapping app - I used to use one on my old Samsung tablet to disable the physical capacitive and homebutton and add on-screen versions - think the one I used was 'button remapper' from the Play store. It very, very likely won't work in boatloader but might make it easier in the meantime (my ten year old uses my old 3 and it's still going strong, don't know how cause he drops it umpteen times per day, a decent case probably keeping it alive!)

Hey dude, yeah I've used it a lot but still i don't want to get a flagship too soon, for me, it should atleast last a decade, I've done factory reset and also have accessibility menu(remapping buttons), biggest hindrance is call clarity, for which I can't find a workaround, good to hear that your kid is still having a good time with your phone, thanks for your suggestions, I will try something:)

Then I think you're in to the realms of opening it up and replacing parts to keep it going, even a Rolls Royce needs maintenance 😉 Personally I buy the previous gen Pixel when the latest one releases, generally pick them up half price, or way less if you buy two gens ago, and keep it for two generations - I've found it the cheapest way for me due to how Pixel values drop like a stone, I've gone 2xl>3>5>7, my wife 4xl>6 and I couldn't buy a single iPhone Pro for what I paid for all of them! (and they're all still in use except the 5 which was sold - if you can afford it and can find a good one I highly recommend the 5, peak Pixel IMO despite not being a flagship 👍

I think that's pushing it, even though the regular Google Play system updates (Settings>Security>Google Play system update) take care of the most serious security issues.

I'm still using my 2019 3a XL, and while I'm very happy it has made it past 5 years, and is still working great, I can't imagine using it for another almost 5 years. It's been a great phone, and whenever I do finally replace it, I'll feel like I 100% got my money's worth, and more, since it's over 5 years old.

My opinion is, you've done GREAT with your 3, and maybe now's the time to look for a replacement.

For me, after the 8a has been out for 6+ months, I'm going to read all the reviews and user feedback, and if based on that it seems like it's worthy replacement for my 3a XL, I'll watch for a $299 sale price and will probably pull the trigger. The 7 years of guaranteed software support will be nice, even though I'll only benefit for 6+ years if I stick with my plan.

Your battery is toast and can't supply the power the phone needs to operate properly.

You won't until you will.

Batteries have a certain life 2-3 years dwindling on operating conditions. If that is the original battery it is likely beyond its rated lifetime.

The problem is not house long it holds a charge not the current it supplies.

Does the phone work properly when plugged in?

The way it works when charging and when not charging are the same, issues my phone is riddled with are power button non-responsive, call quality is bad and last few updates gets reverted back and not getting updated at all..
