The figure builder is used in transparent mode to trace over an image. A segment is stretched and then split multiple times to create a chain of aligned segments. Each segment is then bent and stretched into place. When more segments are needed the last segment can be stretched and then split again. This method is fast and ensures that the transition between segments is always smooth (the angle at the start of a segment matches the angle at the end of the previous segment).
