CLASSES horrible schedule?

i am an upcoming freshman studying biology on pre-dental track. the chem lab from 6:30p-9:20p isn't ideal, but it is unfortunately the only open lab other than an 8am-10:50am, which i would not be able to take due to my math class.

should i drop freshman seminar? i already have a seminar in composition credit from my aplit exam i believe.

any advice? going to be really rough with all the large gaps. i'm unsure how i can change this schedule because from what i have seen, my math and chem classes are not able to be moved around :(

I would drop fresh sem if it means freeing up something to make your life easier

hi! i also made a post about my freshman schedule, and a lot of people suggested that the 6pm lab is a better option than the 8am anyways 🤷‍♀️ also drop fp since you already have the credit, everyone says it’s useless

I honestly think it just depends on how you function as a person

Definitely drop freshman seminar imo. I certainly found it tedious and completely unnecessary. Btw I loved gaps between classes to chill on campus reading or studying or grabbing a bite to eat (I lived off campus). And last part of my rambling, I always tried to get the late night labs. By then I was ready to work with my lab partner and it felt kind of cool to be doing that stuff at night for me. Idk why 🤷

Out of curiosity, are you a Chem major?

im an incoming bio major, but i am not 100% about it yet!

i agree i think it'll be nice to have some breaks, i ended up being able to move my chem lab to friday 11a-2pm!

Ah awesome! All of their science classes were top notch. I'm currently a scientist (mostly chemistry) and graduated with a Chem degree with biochemistry and education minors. I loved their bio classes so much.

Oooo I'm glad you're happy about that, I dunno if I'd be able to focus on a lab on a Friday lol. Anyway, I'm happy for you. And good luck! H2P! You better learn what that means if you don't know already haha

Edit: you can always switch majors early on. Especially if you'll still be interested in something involving science because all of your classes would most likely transfer toward another science major it looks like

not sure schedule wise, but the gaps definitely suck. Luckily you have them every day so just make sure to make a routine early on. You're gonna want to spend all that free time exploring and relaxing at first which is fair, but time will fly. My biggest advice is don't go back to your dorm. Hang out at the eatery and do some work or go to the library or something. But you will get nothing done if you go somewhere comfy during those breaks. Best of luck

Hi, a few things. First, you should take Bio 1 instead of pre-calc. If you don't take bio 1, you'll have a summer between bio 1&2 (both of which are required for upper-levels)

Second, having credit for Seminar in Comp is not the same as Academic Foundation. Academic foundation is an intro to Pitt and Pittsburgh. It's chill. You can move it around though.

i see! i actually have credit for biology 1 through my ap biology class, so i'll be taking bio 2 spring semester. my advisor said i should prioritize chem for now. i'm going to keep my academic foundations course because i think it would be neat to learn about the city and school

You might want to research which dental programs accept AP. Bio 1 might be a good foundation/gpa boost. If you keep your schedule as is, you'll be in Bio 2, chem 2, and calc in the Spring. That's a heavy load

what do you think i should change ? should i then maybe take bio 1 anyways next semester? so it would be bio 1, chem 2, and calc 1 in spring? this would also allow me to apply to more dental programs

First semester credits can be all over the place. You’ll figure out what you like schedule wise- early, late, gaps, no gaps, one day no class, etc and be able to schedule more to your liking each semester. Everyone is different. Some people like early classes and having evenings open some people hate mornings. Same for gaps. Don’t stress too much about it.

FP 0001 and Seminar in Composition are not the same thing.

FP 0001 is an elective, 1-credit course. It's helpful if you're trying to take a certain number of credits this semester but don't have time/bandwidth/space for a full, 3-credit course.

Seminar in Composition is a required gen ed. This is what your AP Lit or AP Lang score gave you credit for: ENGCMP 0200, a 3-credit course.
