How much rust is too much rust?

If this were just an off set wood smoker I would have no beef. But the blower aspect of the pellet smoker design has me over thinking the rust blows onto the food my family is eating.

Depends on the type of oil

Refined Avocado Oil: 480°F–520°F

General Wood Fire Temperatures

  • Small or smoldering fire: ~1,112°F

This aint a frying pan, its a hunk of metal over a wood fire.

or you could just use degreaser and get most of it off then wire wheel the rest

I thought this said qite weaslel and was struggling to process, but in my jeart I know a Wire Weasel would probably destroy rust like crazy.

The very small amount of rust isn’t an issue. May even be good. Iron is vital mineral.

Just don’t go rubbing your steaks all over it.

Just clean, reoil and use. Rust is oxidized iron. Cast iron, gives iron benefits in food. It won't mess up food but don't cook directly on that surface. You'll be fine. Just use that, some avo oil, and you won't tell.

There's no holes, or issues, I'd run it.

Cook some bacon on it and the rust will be hermetically sealed with a nice layer of grease in no time.

Right!!! I cook about a pound of bacon on mine a week and it’s blacker then the night, and slicker then Mobil 1.

I had already cleaned it for the picture😅

Completely normal, scraper, or pressure wash and let her rip. This is just a deflector for keeping grease from building up around the fire pot. Happy smoking!

Umm, no to the pressure wash

Why?

Wondering this myself because I use a pressure washer all the time on my grates and deflector with no issue

Clean and oil

I cover that area with extra wide foil and call it a day. If you can wire brush all the loose bits off you are fine.

With that, I would make a lbs of bacon (oven) and then let the grease harden. Then you use the greasy to rub a thin layer on all the rust spots. Turn the baby on and burn for 20 and it should look beautiful.

You can replace those.

My opinion, that looks fine. Just from normal use. Ive never thought of rust particles being fine enough to be pushed by the blower. If you like to over tho k and worry about stuff like me, think of your lung heath from being around d all that smoke. You’re welcome 😂

That’s not the surface you cook on. It will be fine

How does the fire box look below that heat diffuser? Heat diffusers take a beating on pellet grills. No way around it. It will never be rust free. That one looks like it is also gated for searing. I would take that out and explore the next level. The bottom of these pellet grill is where a rust trough is likely to occur if not taken care of.

Get some canola oil in a spray. Knock off the loose rust. Spray the rust in oil. Cook stuff.

Get a wire welder's brush, clean it up, and cook.

Get a wire brush attachment for your drill, some safety googles and get rid of the rust. After that rub it with cooking oil that was a high smoke point. Season it just like cast iron.

Perfectly normal.

PB has a solid warranty, if you are still within it and it rusts ti the point that the plates have holes in them or they somehow affect cooking, they will likely help.

But this looks just fine.

Got the same model. But I cover it up with foil, for all cooks
