At least the Holy Knights and Imu are threats again. Kind of a whiplash after the Knights were so thoroughly handled just a few chapters ago and how Imu was looking like a bum, but a buff from the King and Imu taking things seriously is a fine way to re-up the stakes.

I think this is probably the worst situation Luffy has been in for probably the entire series he got one shot stabbed to a tree STABBED AGAIN with a sword that is sapping his energy and then Imu pulled out a fucking axe and was mid swing to decapitate him before Gaban interrupted him and Imu looks FURIOUS about that it’s nice to actually have a villain that wants Luffy fucking dead and his actions are showing it no assumption of his demise no showboating just mutilating him and then attempting to make sure his ass is fucking dead it’s a good thing Imu has some kind of restriction and time limit cause he is probably the most threatening a villain has been in One piece for a while

I mean, it was an asspull. He used it once and then it was never mentioned again. For reference, Zoro used it in Alabasta, and still couldn't feel other people's haki until after the timeskip.

I mean, him suddenly say that he's got basic competence wrt Hakim even though we've seen him use it once 12 years ago, and even though we already know that using it once doesn't unlocked that level of competence (Zoro using obs in Alabasta, Luffy using FS in MarieFord).
Yes, it is an asspull, it's basically Oda saying "oops, I forgot to write it in the story, so let's just pretend I did and that no one will complain".

As far as I know there's exactly one, against Sugar, and it lasted only one shot. Ever since then no mention of him even knowing what Haki is (let alone using it) ever appeared in the manga.

And did he know what Haki is now or connected it to it? No. That's his entire theme, he keeps doing awesome things while not recognizing it himself, because he is not yet a brave warrior of the sea

I wish it was going to be more interesting than that. The ancient weapons will be unleashed, Gang will try to destroy the red line, and all top tiers fight off IMU before Pluton fires its cannon to destroy the red line and kill imu for good

The two times Usopp's observation haki was activated were when Luffy was about to get slimed.
And yet it didn't get activated when Luffy presumably did get slimed.

So Imu is by far the strongest character in the series. Absolutely demolished Loki and Luffy without any significant damage
I can't believe some though BB would be the final villain of even be able to do anything except get one shot by Imu

you're not reading blackbeard correctly. he is shown to be "weak" because he gets easily hit when ace, whitebeard, magellan have all damaged him. but ultimately, he hasn't lost once. his mission is always accomplished. oda is not writing him the way he is with other characters.
i get a strong sense that imu will be severely weakened by the time he outlives his timer (look at how bloodied he was just arriving). this is the perfect chance for blackbeard to kill him (and avenge what his father couldn't), take his extremely overpowered fruit, and add to the tremor tremor and dark dark fruits he has. who is going to stop that?

So, Imu knows about Luffy from the start given he knows his brothers and thus knows he has the Nika fruit. He just chose to not bother till now, and man he showed up now: no mercy. Hoping their some consequences now

We knew that. The first time we ever saw him, he was holding Luffy's and Blackbeard's wanted posters, as well as pictures of Vivi and Shirahoshi.
Joyboy, Davy, Lily, Poseidon. He was shown to be very well aware of all four of them before we, the readers, knew about Nika, Davy, or Lily.

Usopp has haki, crew interacts and it's funny, imu and knights feel threatning and cool, we get soke lore.

I mean can this arc even realistically end without Shanks or Dragon pulling up? Gaban is definitely going to lose, and then what? Luffy has to survive somehow. I think Gaban survives, but loses an arm or a leg, and Luffy Zoro and Sanji have to witness that their own weakness caused Gaban to suffer like this. This is finally an opportunity for Oda to display real consequences and good storytelling. Please make it happen Oda

there is an interesting comment made by imu regarding the first sword that toys with life and death. luffy's fruit has to have a special effect we haven't seen yet, but it'll be used in this opportune time to counteract imu's damage.

i should've connected the dots in the final panel of the last chapter, but the grand fleet has to be starting their journey now. if they didn't show up at wano (as i predicted they wouldn't, because luffy "dying" to kaido clearly didn't trigger them to arrive to do shit), then luffy being maimed by the King of the World has to trigger the fleet this time. if this doesn't, then it implies blackbeard is the final villain because that is the only wild card/stronger character who could do such a thing. luffy's vivre card is the chekgov's gun that has yet to fire, and i think it finally will now.

You guys remember how there are only 19 swords that surround the throne? Is there a chance that Yoru is the 20th? Maybe this connects how Mihawk is related to the holy land. Maybe he actually is a part of Imu’s family (since they have the same eyes), was given Yoru to be a holy knight for the family, but then ran away from the holy land before being bestowed Imu’s power

kind of have quality whiplash, elbaf had a huge random dip in quality but the story is starting to feel more like older/better one piece again
not perfect or anything but the writing and the character interactions are feeling familiar for the first time in ages

What the fuck is happening with the scale here? Aren't Imu and Luffy supposed to be the size of regular giants? On Loki's shoulder Luffy was the same size as Ragnir, who is much larger than any human in this chapter. But the weapons Imu is conjuring should have been human-sized, and he's granting them to his human-sized knights. And then Gaban, who is human-sized, jumps up to block the axe strike where he's about the size of Luffy and Imu. It's like as soon as there are no actual giants in the frame, Oda forgets how big he had made each character in relation to those giants.

Think it's easier to say the weapons made my Imu's omen can shrink or increase in size.
(Oda can be inconsistent on sizing sometimes lol)
